I recently purchased this shifter used on eBay since it hasnt been made for awhile. I had the shifter installed and once all setup I had trouble getting all the gears. We have adjusted the cable, and If I have Park I didn't have Low 1, and vice versa. The tranny has all the gears so its definately a shifter/cable issue.

It seems as though when I received the shifter, it went through all the gears just fine prior to being installed.

Kinda wondering what you guys think... Hurst has a shifter rebuild program, but the tech guy said he didn't think it was a shifter problem. The shifter does seem to have quite abit of play in it to me.

Wondering if anyone has had this issue with this shifter, or any shifter for that matter. I would hate to shell out $140 for a shifter rebuild if thats not the problem.

Called Hurst and got the part number before I ordered the cable from Jeg's. I'm not ruling that out, however I don't think the cable length is the problem.

One other thing......I went through the gears with the car not running (the Procharger is pretty loud). I started out in Park obviously, clicked through the gears rather smoothly until it was time to go into Low 1. Wouldn't click into Low 1, almost as if the shifter was down as far it would go. Almost seemed as though the gate needed another quarter inch for it to go into Low 1. But....the shifter handle lined up with all the other gears on the indicator.

Almost seems as though the gate can only support 6 position instead of the seven counting neutral. And yes, the shifter is for a 700R. Any ideas?

You need a longer cable. The early models used stock shifter cables. The later dual gate models used a seperate hurst cable. I havnet been able to hit 1st gear in 7 years but then again 1 st gear in my car is usless.

The Hurst Cable is part # 1205721

You will also need 2 U clips part # 1275702

My car is useless in First too (built 355 w/ Procharger D1), but it's still nice having all the gears available on your shifter.

I havn't gotten the price on the cable yet, I'm figuring about $50
The U clips are $4 each

Directly from Hurst. They have the cables and clips in stock but don't sell direct. I don't think anyone else is going to have them in stock, so if/when you order, you'll need to let Jeg's/Summit whoever know that the Hurst warehouse in California has the cable and clips. It's a definate special order.

i have had that exact problem with my ebay dualgate 2 i don't think for me that it is a cable issue the shifter just simply doesn't pull far inough back on the cable for 1 and barley goes far enough forward, slight delay for tranny to get into park not good i pulled it out for now i'm pretty sure mine is just wore out cause if i take off the plate and pull back on the cable it goes into 1st fine and shifts out of it with the shifter where did u find the rebuild kit i have to know

also a guy on here once told me to get a cable a bracket and an arm which all came with one of the two shifters.... for the transmission a shorter shift arm is the only thing that would make the cable move the bar that it goes in tranny more in both directions eg it takes less actual movement on the bottom of the lever than on the top of the lever to move the same distance it's like the top half of the circumfrance of two different sized circles both having all of the same degrees availible from 0 to 180 but the smaller one in a shorter distance how much difference a quarter inch on a shifter arm would make is what i don't know not enough to make up for a worn out shifter i don't think... that was really hard to explain i don't know what to do shell out 150 for cable bracket arm which is availible or forget about it. the arm is the same p/n for the quarter stick i believe

Sometimes there is a pin you have to knock out of the shifter itself to accommodate 1st gear in a 4 speed transmission like the 700R4. I read it a Hurst manual not to long ago.
