LS1 T56 Clutch Setup

Looking for info as to the best clutch setup for my install.

I want to run an SFI bellhousing with the LS1 type T56 on my 2 pc rear sealed 406 sbc. I have both the stock T5 and LS1 T56 clutch/hydraulic setups so neither route has an advantage parts wise. My engine is balanced to the flywheel for the T5 clutch setup, so changing out the flywheel for a T56 flywheel is my concern if not using the stock clutch configuration.

I would like to run the Quicktime RM-6023 bellhousing which is designed for this swap but no one, including Quicktime seems to be able to clearly define what is the clutch setup to be used with it. Is anyone running this bell in this application?

The adapter plate route (T56 to T5 bell) sounds fine as well, but buying a SFI bell for this install is not exciting me...

Re: LS1 T56 Clutch Setup

I went through the exact same thing and still am. I'm using a t56 from a 05 gto with a 2 piece 350. You can buy an adapter plate and extended pilot bushing and retain the stock bell and clutch. This is the cheapest option. I decided not to go that route because I didn't want the extra 20+ pounds in the steel adapter. I had my input shaft shortened and my mid plate of my tranny machined to accept a steel collar for a hydraulic throw out bearing to ride on. I'm going to use the stock bell for now and get the quicktime one eventually.

Re: LS1 T56 Clutch Setup

I'd like to save the extra 20 # as well, thus the reason for thinking the QT bell route.

How are the machined parts fitting together for you? Not really interested in going that route, but am curious. Let me know how it works out.
