Car: 91' Firebird
Engine: 3.1 LH0 V6
Transmission: Auto 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.23 limited slip
Rear end service
I've owned the car for a little over a year now and never paid any attention to the diff. There hasn't been any problems but I'm thinking it's probably time to change the fluid, who knows when the owners before me did it..
So my question is, should I change the fluid? What should I put back in there? Anyhting I should look for while the cover's off? Does the cover use a gasket or do I use RTV sealant (right now it has a good amount of seepage on it).
Oh and one other thing. Even though my cars a V6 I think the previous owners did something to make it limited slip because it always spins both wheels, even on pavement. Is there a way to tell just having the cover off?

Yes, definitely change it. Use a good quality 80/90W gear oil and RTV on the cover (clean the surfaces with something like lacquer thinner first so it will stick).

If it is lsd - you'll need to add lsd additive with the 80/90 weight.

Jack the whole rear off the ground & spin one side wheel by hand. If the other side goes in the opposite direction, its an open rear. Same direction = posi/lsd.

I don't need to read a FAQ, when personal experience tells me otherwise.
I thought we had both agreed to just ignore each other. Guess you could only do it for a week, without trying to contradict my FACT.

OK, I think I should be able to tell by just looking in there. I've seen inside a few diffs and never seen anyhting like what's in those 2 posi threds. The difference inside them is pretty obvoius it looks like.
Once I go the cover off is there anything I can clean the internals off with (brake cleaner)? And when I'm filling it back up am I gonna have to pump the fluid in somehow, or will I be able to funnel it in.
