Transmission mounts maybe?
Hey guys, my 87 trans am 700R4 has had this problem since i've had it (a year) im not sure if it's even a problem to be honest.
When i really get into it from 1st-2nd RARELY 2-3. I feel the transmission rise upwards like half an inch maybe then drop back down, sometimes it makes a kind of a clunk. But to be honest im not sure if the clunk is the transmission or something in the car XD.
I've read other posts about transmission mounts and they all talk about the shifter moving around when they get into it. Mine dosnt move at all, it's solid until that gear change when im really into it. Then it rises and drops.
Any ideas? o.O

Re: Transmission mounts maybe?
First thing i would do is get under there and check first of all the cross member support bar that holds the tranny up. make sure its in there tight. Second, check the nut that holds the tranny to that bar. There should be minimal movement from the rubber bushing that it cushions on. if your tranny is moving. you could just while stopped, attempt to pull up on the shifter(if its manual) and see if you get alot of play. but by all means there should be very little.

Reading this post made me want to ask a dumb question.
How many mounts are there on a 700R4?

One at the tail shaft, unless you have a secondary-cross member, as seen below:

Re: Transmission mounts maybe?
if you have a automatic the shifter wont move up and down with a broken tranny mount untill the tranny it self hits the floor.
auto- shifter is mounted to the floor
manual- shifter is mounted to the tranny and through the floor with a rubber boot.
with a manual as soon as the tranny starts to move the shifter will rise
