Bought a "built" 700R4. Drop in and go, or see what's inside?
I found a deal on a "built" 700R4 on Craigslist. Supposed to be recently rebuilt, less than 100 miles on the trans and then the guy decided to go with a 4L80E. Supposedly this 700R4 cost him over $1600 to have built, it has Trans-Go "Stage 2" shift kit, Corvette servo and a billet something or another, I couldn't really understand the guy on that part. It came out of a 68 Camaro with a supercharged SBC supposedly making around 800 hp.
My question is, do I just drop it in the car and drive it? Or take the valvebody off and see what's inside? I've done a shift kit before and I'm confident I could take the valvebody off and put it back together without screwing it up, but I wonder if I could even identify the parts that were used? It's not that I don't trust the seller, but from reading on here and on ProBuilt's website it seems there's a lot of tranny shops that don't build the 700R4 "right." If I could take it apart and replace a couple of parts and have it done "right" I'd like to do that. Maybe I could take pics of the different valves/springs and post them up here and see if you guys could identify them?

Taking the valvebody off won't tell you anything other than being able to figure out what shift kit ws used. The servo can be checked easily enough, but to be sure the proper reaction shell, sprag, clutches, etc were used and that everything was toleranced correctly requires complete dissassembly of the trans.

Oh. Well, I guess that pretty much decides it for me, might as well run it as is since I really don't want to get into the guts of the transmission.
