GMTech...SRTA 4L60...

GMTech, since you have experience with the SRTA 4L60 (GMs remanufactured 700R4), I was wondering if this tranny came with the Corvette servo in it?

Also, would the current SRTA that is offered handle more torque/power? I figure it might as the 4L60E currently is available for the new F-bodies with 325 HP. I am assuming the 4L60 SRTA still uses the same guts as the current 4L60E. Any idea on the max torque/HP the current SRTA can handle?

As for HP/TQ ratings, I don't know the max, but yes, it will contain the same updated internals as what is used in the newer 4L60-E. GM has also announced this year that certain 2001 4L60-E will be a "heavy duty" version, with 5 pinions in the planetaries instead of four, and many other updates. It will be interesting to see if these "new" parts will retrofit into a 4L60 (700), but yes, your SRTA should be able to handle the same amount of HP/TQ as what is installed on the newer F-bods.

As for the corvette servo, no. When you buy a SRTA, they order it based on the transmission code. An tranny code will have:

A number (Model Year)
A letter (Carline)
And two letters after that for its specific modle.
For example, a 1992 Camaro 4L60 will have a 2F?? in two places on the tranny. (the ?? means it could be many combinations i.e. 2FHM, 2FDM, etc...) So when you order your SRTA, they will order a 2F?? and you will get the valving, shifting etc.. that GM designed for all cars w/ a 2F?? tranny. They will however, make a change if they don't like what they orginnaly did, and the new SRTA will reflect these changes.

The corvette servo that everybody raves about is found in one transmission, the *YDM (the * indicates that any year from 1985-2000 will work 5YDM-0YDM) This is the only transmission that I Know of that has this servo, so no, if you ordered the 2F?? tranny, it will have whatever servo was intended for that. I hope I didn't confuse you.

Thanks GMTech. You did not confuse me. I will just remember to order the Corvette YDM tranny if and when it comes time to replace my current SRTA.

Frankly, the Corvette servo is not as important to me as having a tranny capable of handling more TQ/HP. The SRTA I got in 1995 is definitely better than my original tranny. I am so happy with it that I plan to get another when I have to. Hopefully, that will be a while in the future.

two problems with that.

1) you won't be able to turn the old in on a core charge, you must turn in a YDM also

2) you will need to swap tailhousings so it will fit in the car (torque arm mount)

The Corvette output shaft is 1" shorter, so I am not sure how you can address this. The driveshaft would need to be an inch longer. Do not know of a 1" shorter tail housing that would allow the torque arm to bolt up. If GMTech knows of a Corvette style trans with a standard length tail housing then go for it.
