Car: 1986 camaro z28
Engine: 350sbc
Transmission: TKO 600
Axle/Gears: stock axle with 4.11's
missing gear but no visible problem?????

i lost 5th gear on highway the other day..i have t-5 out of car and taken apart no bad gears it looks as if something to do with the 5th gear shifting mechanism is wrong i cant figure it out has anybody else had the same problem and can help me figure this out so i can get car back on the road...???

I'd give Bob Hanlon a call at Hanlon Motorsports. Best guy I've ever seen with a T5. He's also a wizard with a T56, gave me some great tips I've never seen anywhere else before. I can't say enough good about him, really helped me a couple of times.

I've read on here before that there's a snap ring that holds 5th gear on the mainshaft that's known for popping off sometimes. You might want to check and make sure yours is still there. There's also a snap ring that holds the 5th driven gear on the end of the countershaft. Also check to make sure the roll pin that holds the shift fork on the end of the linkage rod is still there. If that roll pin has sheared or fallen out, the linkage rod will just slide back and forth without moving the shift fork. You'll have to remove the extension housing to inspect all this if you haven't already done so.
