TH350 rebuild help.

i recently bought a th350 for cheap.
im planning on rebuilding it. i went to afew auto stores to see if they have a book on TH350 rebuilds. but i couldnt find any. i tryed searching the internet but cant came across a website yet. i would order one but im still waiting for my credit card to come in the mail. (there taking forever!! )

i tryed looking threw the search and its just making me frusterated using that thing. i dont know how to use the search properly i dont think.
if anyone know a good thread on rebuilding a TH350 or any helpful tips would be good.

right now im acturally stripping the paint off the bellhousing and casing and putting fresh new paint to make it look purrdy
my main concern is that i dont want paint and metal dust inside the casing. i have all the holes plug up with blue papertowel. since im going to rebuild it. can i take everything out of the transmission and have an empty tranny case?
cleaning and sanding the case would be heck of alot easyer and lighter to move around. im wondering if its safe to do so until i get a TH350 rebuild book?

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

For a one time deal, the tools needed to complete it would be cheaper to just have a shop do it IMO.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

yeah i thought about taking it to a shop. but i would like to learn how to do it and what not. if that makes any sence at all. if i run into any problems or if i find it to hard i can always take it to a shop. no biggy for me.

oh by the way. what kind of tools are we talking about to complete it? and are the tools fairly expensive?

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

Ron Sessions has a book (Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 Handbook, HPBooks) that gives step by step instructions and pictures showing you exactly how to rebuild a TH350. I got it on Amazon for about $20. Outstanding book.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

i think that was the book i was going to get. im just waiting for my darn credit card to come in the mail so i can start ordering stuff up.
but since im not working on rebuilding at this very moment. im just woundering if it would hurt taking out all the internals out and then rebuild and upgrade parts once i get book.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

The book has pretty detailed instructions on how to disassemble it and what to look for as you're taking stuff apart. It's your tranny, but if it were me, I'd wait until I had the book in hand.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

yeah. i might put the tranny aside for right now and work on something else. until i get the book.
i dont want to take it apart and wrecking something or taking it apart wrong.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

The 350 is one of the easiest transmissions there is to rebuild. If an epsilon-double-minus sub-moron like me can do it, surely someone like you, who are no doubt far more intelligent than me, can too.

Get the ATSG manual for it.

Takes about 2 hours, plus however long in cleaning parts, if you're a slow child like me; you can probably do it quicker.

You might want to consider a Transgo shift kit while you're at it.

Re: TH350 rebuild help.

a transgo shift kit sounds nice.
when i bought it localy from a guy. he says it has a stage 2 shift kit.
im putting a Transbrake in it so ill be upgrading parts for more heavy duty stuff.
ill be getting that book forsure.
ill probably lable everything so i know what part is what.
i found a diagram of the internals of the th350 and has the names of all the parts and how they go in and stuff. ill print that out and use it as a reference when taking it apart.

i didnt know the TH350 is one of the easyest transmissions to rebuild.
