Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
Can anyone tell me what the stock shifter should be for my 90 GTA 305 5 speed. It has a B& M shifter right now which it had when I bought it. I'm looking for a stock one to put back in.

Re: Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
I am returning the car to stock to try to get it running properly. Right now I have a connector that isn't plugged into anything. The car will start without pushing in the clutch. I'd like to get the car back to factory specs.

Re: Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
i don't believe there are any electronics attatched to the stock shifter. might check the condition of the switches on the clutch pedal. the one onthe backside is the one that keeps it from starting if it isn't depressed.

B&M is a awesome shifter, don't even think about putting that stock junk back in.

Re: Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
There should be a switch on the top of the clutch pedal assembly with two purple wires (12 gauge I think) going to it. Look for that wire and get it connected back in.
I fused them together when I converted to automatic and then hooked em back up when I put the 5 speed back in.

Re: Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
the safty switch is on the clutch, not in the tranny, it will start no matter where the shifter is, but you have to have the clutch pedel down for it to start, at least if the switch isen't broke, check to see if it pushed out, if it did the flat plate on the pedel might not be contacting the swich when the pedel is out, making it think the pedel is pushed in, just push it in until it contacts the plate.

Re: Stock 5 Speed Shifter Question
Thanks! I found the switch and it was stuck in so it thought that the clutch was always pressed. I pulled the switch out and took it apart - it looks like I just have to replace one of the springs in there and I should be good to go.
What confused me was that when I pulled the console to check out the shifter, I found a plug that doesn't seem to go anywhere. It is flat, with 6 connectors and is in the same mini harness as the two cig lighter wires. Any idea what that may be for?
