Proper trans temp (700r4) with addition of trans cooler? Anyone know?

Car: 1990 IROC-Z 350Stealthram 11.61@120
Engine: 350 Stock Bore&Stroke
Transmission: 700R4 Auto/Vigilante 2600
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Stock 10 bolt
Proper trans temp (700r4) with addition of trans cooler? Anyone know?

Please post your temperatures. Oh, and I also have a TrangGo shift kit in mine. I just installed my trans temp gauge and need to know where my safety areas are (*F).

Ideal trans temp is something in the 160-180° kind of range.

Anything over about 210° is bad. Over about 230°, the fluid starts to become corrosive.

If the vehicle overheated due to a fan problem, and say was shut down around 265f (which caused the gauge to go up to 278f eventually from sitting with engine off), how do you think in your opinion that affected the tranny fluid, and tranny itself?

Or is it more of a prolonged, not one time thing ?
