U-JOINT HELP, PLEASE
Ok, I have a 89 Camaro 700R4.Steel Drive Shaft...I got an Aluminuim driveshaft out of a 88 Firebird....Went and bought new back U-joints, the only problem is the ones for the shaft are smaller than the ones for the rearend yoke, or whatever the thing on the rear end is called....Just went to put it in and no go....So can someone tell me the difference, or what U-joint, I should be using???? Brand ??? Part Number???? Other than this the shaft is the same length and all the yoke on the shaft fits the tranny ok....Was the difference in the rear maybe because the firebird had a different rear end than my car..??? Please help, as I really want to use this shaft...It is alot lighter, and probably balanced better....Thanks for any help on this...Tom

The yoke on your differential takes what's called a 3R u-joint. The aluminum driveshaft uses a Spicer #1310. You need a 1310/3R combination u-joint or a full 1310 u-joint and a 1310 yoke.

That's why I said OR. There are many combination u-joints available for the common size u-joints. Just go to your local auto parts supplier and tell them you need a 1310/3R combination u-joint.

Re: U-JOINT HELP, PLEASE
Sorry to bring this thread back from its 13 year nap... During my swap to install a Dana 44 in place of the factory 10-bolt, I couldn't figure out why the u-bolts wouldn't fit over the u-joint bearing cups. Aren't all the joints #1310....?
3R = 1 1/8 = 1.25" cup diameter
#1310 = 1 1/16 = 1.062"
After some searches, I also found this thread, confirming yes, the rear shaft joint is a 3R x 3R. Here are two options for 3R x #1310 u-joints.
AdvanceAutoParts.com - Moog #372 for $22.49
OReillyAuto.com - Spicer 530221X (5-3022-1X) for $39.99
I like cheaper as much as the next guy, and the online reviews said good things about both Moog and Spicer. However, not wanting to skimp on parts that make a real mess if they fail, I spent extra on the Spicer joint. (And next day pick from store 1 mile away, instead of 7 miles.)

Moog 372C is what I used for my 84 rear and 1LE alumn drive shaft IIRC
