700r4 misses 3rd gear
Sometimes my tranny (86 Corvette) goes into neutral on the 2-3 shift. As soon as I let up on the gas it goes in to third. It never slips in any gear, never misses on the 4-3 downshift, doesn't do it all the time, maybe one time out of fifty. I don't think it has too many miles on it, there is a "remanufactured by General Motors" sticker on the tranny. It has a B&M shift improver kit in it and shifts quick and firm. The fluid and filter have been changed several times and looks really clean. I'm afraid to take it to the drag strip because if it misses the shift at full throttle bad things could happen. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Did it again today. Took the wife shopping, drove about 10 miles, stopped for about 1 1/2 hours. Drove slow for about two miles then stepped on the gas to go up the freeway ramp. About half throttle and the 2-3 shift went into neutral. Let off the gas and it went into 3rd. Then no more problems. Any Ideas????

well it could be that your tranny is slipping, like when it goes to get the resistence it can't hold it and slips out then somehow it grabs again. its amazing how some trannys are sooo complicated.

First, check the fluid level, and the condition of the fluid, Next, check the TV cable and see if it is tight at WOT, readjust TV cable till it is tight and road test. Let me know what happens?

I've changed the fluid twice in the last 5000 miles and it is on the full mark with the motor idleing and the transmission in neutral. The tv cable is adjusted properly (I have a factory service manual). It shifts perfectly 99% of the time. When it doesn't shift into 3rd, if I let off the gas the rpm's drop to idle (like it was in neutral) until it goes into gear again. Only takes a couple of seconds to go into gear then it is fine again. Then I can go full throttle with no problems. And it's never done it with the motor cold or after a long drive. It has only done it after driving, stopping for 15 minutes to 2 hours, then driving again. It's been doing this for the last 5000 miles. (after the b&m shift improver kit was installed?) Sometimes I can drive for several weeks with no problem.

sounds like what mine does except for when it happens mine does it all the time, its not going into neutral it just gets to where the motor dont make no more power happens on mine right at 4500 you have an 8 so it probably happens sooner in the RPMs for you.
My trans goes 1-2 perfectly no balks at all, 2-3 it wont shift if im over 1/2 throttle, 3-4 is perfect dont do the WOT downshift thing at all.
It shifts from 1-2 at like 5,000 then going from 2-3 it just hangs till i let out of the gas and then it will shift but if i get back in with the car going any less than 65mph it downshifts back to 2nd and hangs again.. once im in 3 it will shift to 4th with out any difficulty at all.
The trans was rebuilt a while back is it possible to get whatever controls the 3-4 shift mixed up with whatever controls the 2-3 shift?

Similar to mine... no shift at 2-3 at WOT. I'm listening for ideas too. This tranny has been in for at least 80,000 miles that I know of. I put in a shift kit and replaced the clutches. It was computer controlled, but after my engine swap it never got hooked up (23,000 miles ago). It's a 700r4, and has been doing this since I have owned the car.

Re: 700r4 misses 3rd gear
Any ideas on what may be causing the 2-3 shift problems? Mine has been doing it since I got the car, and I have since removed the computer. I am at a loss on this. I am really tempted to swap to a t-56, but it's more money than i want to spend.
