Look what happened to MY ATI convertor!

Have anyone ever have this happen before? This was a ATI TreeMaster convertor with all the good stuff in it like: Anti-ballooning plates and heavy duty stator the works to think it cost me $736.00 dollars. Granted it's 4 years old, I've seen many folks at the track in MD rebuild their convertors of 4 and 5 years old. ATI told me to send it to them for a rebuild for $175.00. Do you think I should have to pay anything? Because it caused some damage to my tranny too due to low line pressure.

Parts break. Expect to pay for converter rebuild. 4 years seems like enough time for defective parts or workmanship to rear their head. Sux, but what can you do.

after 4 years, its just fatiqued metal. cant really blame them.

anything broken in your tranny?
i had one do that one time.
the cause was the sprag letting go, cracking the direct clutch and taking out the front pump.
any matter of parts could have caused a bind then breakage.
ati is good stuff. i wouldnt hesitate to have them fix it and use it.
good luck.

Yeah, I would think that happened from the pump locking up or something similar... Probably not the converters fault.

To tell the truth I bought the converter in April 02 and drove the car only 6 months before storing for the winter. Then April 03 I went to Afghanistan and then straight to Iraq in Aug 03 from Afghanistan until Sept 04, so I was deployed for 17 months. And of course I drove the car again for 2 months then stored it once more for the winter. Then in April 05 I drove the car as much as I could, so I'm guessing 6-7 months of driving for that year. And now that brings us up to speed with the history of the converter. I'm guessing about two years of driving and this happens. I don't buy that stuff about parts fatigue, especially converters from well know companies such as ATI. This is a race converter not a factory low budget converter. Cmon.

Again the rotor in which the the converter hub connects to is made of Harden steel and if you know about harden steel it shadders when broken, so if the pump locked up it would be broken as well. The pump was intact when taken apart, the only thing brokenwas the reverse input drum retainer spring.

UPDATE
I just got a call from ATI and they told me that a Sonex converter hub was installed on converter back then, but now they build their own hubs in house and they will rebuild my converter, replace the hub, and guess what their doing it for free. All I have to do is pay for shipping. ATI Performance stands behind their products. They are stand up company. I want to thank ATI for their support.
