I Need Help Finding A Speed Sensor
Hi we are needing help finding a speed sensor that will work with my combo. My dad has an '86 Trans Am that originally had a TPI 305 and a 700-R4 transmission. The car now has a Carbureted 383 with a 200-4R trans mission. The 700-R4 had a 2-wire speed sensor that ran his speedometer, the 200-4R was built for a cable ran speedomter. We need to find out what sensor we need that will fit the 200-4R, that has the 2 wire hook-up to work with the factory speedometer. I know the '89 Turbo Trans Am came from the factory with the 200-4R transmission, but I don't know what they used to run the speedometer. Can somebody help us? The help would be greatly appriciated,Brian

just wanted to add that the dash is NOT a digital numbered dash, everything has hands like a normal dash,it just gets an electronic signal from the speed sensor through a buffer box located under the dash.

Go to the parts store and order one for a 1989 Turbo Trans Am. They had the buick 2004R tranny w/ the electronic speed sensor. Kinda pricey, though. Hope that helps.

If that doesn't work, get an aftermarket unit for a cable that produces a 2000 pulse per mile signal. Painless has them, as does Turbo City.
It goes between the trans drive and the speedo cable and has two wires that go to the speed buffer (the other end can go nowhere it doesn't matter, since you don't have a cable).
