Plastic bit broken under shift plate - difficult to get in gear

For the past week or so I've had trouble selecting a gear (automatic 2.8L). I thought the tranny end of the cable might have play but that checks just fine, the bracket is good, cable is tight. linkage is AOK. So I took off my shift plate and found this plastic piece laying on the tranny hump. I'm not sure of the terminology so I'll describe it as best as possible. Its white plastic and shows considerable wear. It's crescent shaped (as if it fit onto the detent plate), has a hole in one end, and a corresponding (now empty and loose) rivet on the detent plate, and its shaped to fit over the detent plate like a glove. On mine the hole had worn through on the front end and it fell off.

Seems like this part is to guide the shifter and now that it fell off I have excessive side-side play which isn't letting the detent happen. WHen I select a gear the tranny does go into gear but it doesn't lock in place. I need to wiggle it a bit up and down then it does lock into gear.

Anyone know what that plastic bit is called?
