700R4 wont shift into OD!!!

Alright guys I have had my car for about 3 years now and I have driven with it in OD on the freeway about the 5 times. I really only drive the car around town and never need to shift out of 3rd. When I first purchased the car it would shift into OD without probs and it functioned normally. Then I upgraded from 2.73 gears to the 3.73 gears and suddenly the car needs to shift into OD when driving around town. Now the car will not shift into OD for me so I am stuck winding 3000 rpms while driving 50-55mph around town. I have tried everything I can think of (IE. Accelerating hard, soft, cruising, shifting from D to OD manually) and nothing works. It acts as if the shifter is in 3rd but I know its in OD. Its driving me nuts!!!. One of the things that I think is causing the problem is the fact that I don’t have a TC lockup switch. You see two years ago I switched to a Carb setup and when I did I ripped out anything CPU related, so nothing is controlling my TC lockup. Will this keep my car from shifting into OD? I am planning on pulling my Engine/ Trans sometime soon to freshen things up and get them working correctly can anyone else think of any reasons my Trans would not be shifting into 4th gear? Thanks guys I appreciate the help.

most likely a burnt clutch pack, but, i'm pretty sure with no tc lockup switch it'll still shift to 4th just won't lock i would expect...

see, no one told you that the 700r4 is one of the only transmissions that doesnt send the tranny fluid to the cooler until it enters lock up. When the ecm is gone, it never enters lock up.

this will be a long shot but pull the servo out and check the seals....that is the 2-4 servo assembly and one of those seals blowing will cause a no OD scenario. servo is located near the bell housing on the pass side. tanny has to be dropped down odd the cross member about 3-4 inches to get the cover off..

Thanks for the info guys. This tranny has been through some hell so it would surprise me if some internals were fried. I am going to pull the tranny out within the next few weeks and when I do I will check the servo. I will probably get a corvetter unit anyways.

to check the the 4th gear servo apply seal, the trans does not have to come out. simply remove the the trans crossember and TA and drop it down as far it will go. the servo assm is located on the passenger side (under about a 3" circular cover). if all seals check out fine then the foward clutch piston seal has failed or the foward clutch pack has excessive clearance (worn/burnt) not allowing the clutches to apply. if the above is true, 3rd is not far from dying.

Well I guess I better start thinking about a new trans then. The guy who had this car before me flat out told me he beat the crap out of this trans so I am surprised it has lasted this long. Oh Well. Thanks again for the help guys.
