How difficult of a swap?

I've got the tools and equipment and experience...well, not exactly on this job (or else I wouldn't be asking) but on many other things.

Anyhow, I want to take the 3.73 posi from my 84 Z-28 (has T-5 and rear discs) and swap it into my 89 IROC (700R4 with horrible rear discs) in favor of the horrible 2.77 posi.

I'm talking about changing the entire assemblies. I guess the 89 has rear springs where the 84 does not. What other obstacles might I run into?

Reason, for those who are wondering: The 84 is going to a new home. The new owner has an 84 that is beat up (worse than mine) and he will use his car as a parts car...he doesn't need, rather want, two rear-ends. I'm also taking the exhaust and heads. I plan on keeping the 89, and eventually want to do this, or a similar swap in the future. So, if you feel that a different rear end would be a better fit for the 89, speak up.

Which brings this information: The 89's purpose is NOT explicitly for racing, in fact, it may never be raced at all. Right now it has edelcrap headers and a flowmaster muffler on it, under-sized pulleys and a ported plenum. Eventually I may change the intake system out, and I'll definitely slap on a better exhaust system...but that may be the extent of performance upgrades.

what "entire assembly" do you plan to change rear end or carrier?, either is an easy job.

I would swap everything rear of the drive shaft's end and below the shock mounts and inbetween the tires.

I'd probably keep the 89's sway bar and springs...but everything else can change, and would be an upgrade I think...

I'm mostly worried about the brakes, everything else looks straight forward.

could be as simple as an unbalanced tire and rim! check that first before pulling your car apart

Huh? I'm not trying to fix anything other than getting a better rear end that the POS on the 89 IROC.
