did 4.10 is overkill??

I am cant make my choise betwen the 3.73 or th 4.10.the mpg is not a concern.I just dont whant to overkill...what should i get??
27.3"tires@6000rpm

2-139.92 87
3-228 142.5

Frankly, if I was you, I'd leave the gears alone, and get a converter first. Just in terms of bang for the buck.
3.73 is usually about all you want to go to with the 700, because 1st is so deep. IMO there's not enough difference between 3.42 and 3.73 to make it worth doing, until you deal with the converter.
Dyno your car and see where it makes power; get a converter that stalls 400-500 RPM below its peak torque RPM; and shift at a RPM such that after the shift, your RPM is at the peak torque again.
Always pick the low-hanging fruit first.

Shifting at 6200 but crossing the line at 5200 in 3rd? Might want to add some gear in that case, but the tq. converter would be a wise move to improve your e.t.

Peak power should be at 5600.So do you think that a 2800 stall with a 3.73 should be the best setup for my camaro .Did they sell stall torq with the 27 spline lockup and a 2500 to 2800 stall speed? B&M or TCI

At least 2800, maybe more like 3200.
You'd do better with Performance Industries. Their "Vigilante" product. In Oakland TN; another almost-suburb of Memphis, kind of like TCI being in Ashland MS.

well, i have 4.10 gears and stock height tires, 25.6 or something, i was trapping in third gear at 5500-5600 rpms. I think your gonna want 4.10 gears, i mean you still have od and you tall tires, you will be fine.

Yea, that`s kinda low even for a 342 cog...I have 4.10`s with the 26 inch drag radials, big block 477, 3,000 nine inch non lock up stall and It goes thru the traps right at 7,100 rpm@ 118.xx(in third gear a-4)
I`d do the 3.73`s if I did it again

Do you have a factory tach? If yes, that might explain your oddly low trap rpms.

Do you plan on leaving this motor alone for a while?
if you do then i say go with the 4.10's
but if you plan on putting more power and goodies on the car, your gunna need more top speed, pointing to the 3.73.

if you're going for performance, the 4.10 is the way to go. without alot of explaination, that is roughly the naturally asperated gear ratio of choice.

Choise is done
After hours of calculs and reflexion i made my choise on the 4.10 because i am most of the time on motor so my trap speed is 104 mph my tires are 28x9x15 (27.3") and the gear is 4.10 = 5250 rpm .With 5% of torque converter slipage=5512rpm wich is ok.For the nitrous...trap speed is 110mph with 4.10 =5600rpm and with 5% of torque converter slipage=5880rpm thats is also ok . So i should be ok to 113 with 5% slipage at the 6000 cutoff. At the very least if i get more than 113mph i will pull my cutoff to 6200rpm . Thanks to everyone that help me make my choise!! i will bring back the results as soon i get back to the track..
