Where to get a 9 bolt cover gasket...
I practically gave up on 9bolt.com
I'm looking here : 9 Bolt Parts but the first pic of the gasket they show doesn't look like any 9 bolt cover gasket.
Does anyone have any info on it...and is that "plug like thing" that comes w/ it the filler plug for the cover?

You can get them at Auto Zone, but they usually do not carry them in store stock and have to order them. That "plug like thing" is the pinion seal not a filler plug.

Thanks for the help! I didn't think Autozone and those joints carried the seal...Thought they only had the "make your own" gaskets since no one else carries stuff for the 9 bolt...

I was going to use a gasket, then RTV on top. I don't really like the idea of metal on metal...I'd want some type of "sleeve" inbetween the two (gasket)...I'd think that'd make a more secure/reliable seal, rather than just RTV by itself...That's my logistics of it...

I've been running RTV by itself and so do a lot of people, metal is not on metal, the rtv is inbetween both, make sure you use the black one as it has the most oil resistance.

RTV works better than a gasket on a rear cover. One tube will the job 3-4 times, plus you will always have one on hand if you keep a tube around. Just use the exact stuff RB has a picture of.

I probably will use a few dabs of RTV...but I don't like the idea of RTV gobbed all around...then, whatever squished out the sides might fall in, and who knows what else...

Can you get the rubber fill plug anywhere mine is leaking like hell i wish some1 had a aluminum cover out now. Im rdy to take this thing out and pull the axels for my pbr brakes. Ill be adding royal purple and i dont wanna lose any.

Damn good idea where did u get your new cover at? NM u said u sand blasted it anyway did you get the steel or aluminum plug. Cause is it just the cap aluminum cause i dont have nething to weld aluminum.

That's my stock cover, sandblasted and repainted. I used the steel bung as it comes with an aluminum cap. I can do yours for you if you' d like me to.

Ok so you bought the one that says steel and they both come with aluminum caps. I got a welder and a sandblasting cabinet did u just weld it over the hole u didnt cut it to size or nething right.

I TIG welded it to keep it cleaner, but I made no other mods to it...just sandblasted it and welded the bung to it. Be careful not to blow a hole in the cover.

I just ordered the 9-bolt gasket (FelPro) from the local parts house. Took one day to get it in from their warehouse. Cost me like 5 bux and change. Nobody will have them in stock, but most parts houses can get it in a day or two.
You can get a replacement rubber fill plug from GM, it also costs 5 bux and change. I just ordered one from the local Poncho/Buick dealer. I wanted to have a spare on hand in case the one in the diff now gets damaged when I pry it out. When they get old the rubber hardens and they don't seal any more. Having heat from the muffler nearby doesn't help. You will start seeing a leak coming from the fill hole, drops on the ground, and the ***-end of the car will get an oily/dirty film of crap.
Some of us don't have welding machines. I wish some aftermarket supplier would make a replacement cover for the 9-bolt with a normal screw-in plug for drain and another for fill. Just like on the side of the T5. That would eliminate all this hassle of finding a rare gasket and a fragile rubber plug every time we want to change the diff oil.
Any aftermarket house make a replacement rubber plug that fits?
