Hey, I just installed my 3.42's a couple of weeks ago without posi, and look what happened today!! I didn't think that you could get this with an open carrier....but evidently you can....sweet!

Yup, I did it when the 3.08's were still in the car hehe. Since then switched to 3.42's and a few months ago put a locker in. So much more fun plus more traction

very possible and more likely the stiffer the suspension is. unfortunatly, the one tire thing will happen when you don't want it to.

Was the powertrax unit a breeze to install? Because I'm seriously considering either on of those or a regular eaton or auburn posi....

Yep, it was easy except for one stuck bolt that took an hour to get out. After that it was just stacking the parts in like the instructions say to do. After the 50 mile break in I had some late night fun I almost bought an Auburn posi but wanted something quick and didn't want to pay for someone to set up the gears and such. This was something I could do in the afternoon and be out driving again before dinner.

Well, that sounds pretty straightforward...I'm assuming you could feel a subtle difference? How is it for cornering? Any clacking or mechanical noises?

It was a big difference... Yes there is some noise but not bad at all. Cornering when you're on the gas tends to make the car push a bit but you get used to it. When you let off in the same corner the front tends to jump to the inside of the corner when the locker releases. Posi doesn't do this, it's nice and smooth hardly know it's there but you can lay down 2 black strips still. Going around turns like at a stoplight sometimes squeels the inside tire and might get a cop looking at ya. Traction was much improved on dry streets and down right scary the first time driven in the rain but fun hehe. Wheel hop right now is sort of an issue but probably can be corrected with upgrading the 21 year old rear suspension. Don't think I ever had a bigger grin on my face after the first bit of fun I had with the locker in.
