Super T10 Overhaul question...help!

I'm in the process of tearing down my ST-10 to replace syncros [damn, bangin' gears is fun!] and I'm having some issues removing the input shaft/mainshaft ***'y.

It looks like the input bearing needs to be removed from the input shaft BEFORE either the input or mainshaft ***'y can be removed from the case. My manual sucks but it does say to use a 'suitable bearing extractor' to remove the bearing, but there's nothing on the bearing other than a snap ring groove to grab onto.

Anyone out there done one before?

No, but I've done at least 15, but it's been at least 10 years since the last one...

Seems like it comes off without a fight. You undo that big nut on the clutch gear that holds the bearing on, and it slides off the clutch gear. Unless I'm thinking of a Muncie. IIRC you don't have to remove the snap ring.

It must have been awhile since you've built one because there is no nut retaining the input bearing on a ST-10.

Once the front bearing retainer is off there is only a snap ring on the input shaft, then the bearing can be pulled off the input shaft......somehow.

Anybody else ever taken a ST-10 apart?

I rebuilt one about two years ago, I remember very clearly pressing the input shaft bearing off and back on with it out of the case. I do remember it was like a puzzle to get the mainshaft assembly, counter gear and input in and out of the case.
In other words I didn't remove the bearing to get everything out of the case.
I think the shaft for the counter gear (or cluster gear) needs to be removed to allow it to lower down out of the way of the other parts.
