Please help 700R4 Shot ?

Hi all,

Just bought 88 GTA w/ 700R4 and I get that awful smell like burnt trans fuid and a grinding sound when trans is in second gear and I go more than a quarter on the pedal. When I let it shift at like 1600-1700rpm, it's going smoothly. Anything higher and the thing slips and the grinding noise appears. It's doing that in 2nd only.

Any idea? TIA.

BTW, when the car is cold (less than 10 minutes of driving), everything is fine. Anybody has a clue?

Check the fluid level (in park when warm) read both sides of the stick, the sides that reads the lowest is the true reading. Check the TV cable to see if it is adjusted correctly, if it needs adjustment then do it as per transfixleo's instructions. If the fluid level is fine and the fluid looks & smells ok, and the TV cable is adjusted correctly, then it sounds like the front pump is going away (losing volume due to much rotor, vane, & slide clearence), and its time for a rebuild.
