Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

Hello,
I have an 88 iroc z28 5.7 liter. The car needs the fuel pump replaced. I was looking for a really good fuel pump kit to replace the old stock fuel pump with. I bought a Bosch-69218 along with a fuel pump screen 68006 back in 2008. I should have bought the kit. I know I am missing other parts. So I thought I would just ask people here on the forum who are smarter than me to see what would be a good fuel pump kit to buy. I replaced the relay to make sure that it was not bad. The car has been sitting since 2010 when I had to have spine surgery that left me with permanent nerve damage. Sad to say it makes it very hard and painful for me to work on a car that only has a little over 7,000 original miles. I was praying to be able to have one of my daughters get my car picked to be on garage squad lol. I hate to see it wasting away because of me. Thanks guys for all your help and input.

Re: Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

I was going to replace my fuel pump with the Bosch pump but I couldn't find any for sale when I needed one so I am running the "genuine GM" fuel pump from Rockauto, I also made sure to get a new Spectra sending unit (not many replacement options available, Hawks may have a refurbished originals for sale) as they are often trashed if the car sat and the labor intensiveness of the job meant I wasn't taking chances. The fuel sock was also replaced with a Delphi so everything would be good to go. I have been running this set up for a few years and no issues to report, fuel gauge works well and is as accurate as before. It also might not be a bad idea to have a replacement fuel tank on hand just in case, on such a low mile car you may be ok, but there is no telling what the inside looks like until it gets dropped. The replacement tanks are a little more dicey as they do not take fuel as fast the OE but oddly mine has gotten better over time (I went with the Dorman, the only other option was a Spectra when I looked last). If you get a new tank best bet would be to purchase local to ensure easy return if not needed.

I would also check your wiring to the fuel pump and its relay to be sure everything is good before going through the fuel pump replacement process, I had a bad FP relay big tail that would give me intermittent start and die as the poor connection was messing with the fuel pump voltage.

I second this. More than enough pump for what you need and cost effective.

Re: Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

I really appreciate you guys trying to help me out. This might be a dumb question to ask But here goes. Since I have the Bosch-69218 pump and filter screen if I were to go with the Spectra sending unit like @Reddragon88gta has suggested. Is there one in particular I should get or will any of them work? I believe the only other part I would need is a fuel sock. I am hoping the premium Bosch fuel pump has all the parts in the bag with the pump? The next thing I desperately need is a front dash panel where the iRoc emblem is located. Mine cracked all the way down and needs the dashpad pad also. I am not sure that is what it is called. But that's another thread. I want to thank all of you for your time and help.

Just be sure you get the sender for a fuel injected car, it will mention in it in the parts description. You will need to get a fuel sock separate as I don’t believe the pump will come with one.

If you need those dash pad and other parts place an ad in the parts wanted section here, someone may have what you need.

Re: Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

Will do the parts wanted section here. Thanks for the tip on the fuel-injected sending unit. I will keep you guys informed about my progress on the car. It's going to be a little slow with my nerve damage but I hope to have it done before the winter weather starts moving in. You guys have been fantastic. And I am grateful for your time and help.

Re: Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

Hello.
Well, I started taking apart the fuel tank. I bought a new SPECTRA PREMIUM GM2721B tank. I have a Bosch-69218 fuel pump and need a fuel sock for the pump. And a sending unit could someone tell me where I could find a good sending unit and a sock for the bosch pump? I tried rocks but they did not have the SPECTRA PREMIUM FG20A sending unit in stock. And I am not sure where to find the sock for the pump. Thank you guys for all the help.

Re: Good fuel pump kit needed for 88 iroc 5.7 liter,

Delphi FS0177 for the fuel sock is what I used, I would look on rock auto again or check local parts stores with that Spectra part number for the sending unit.
