TPI Distributor
Does TPI engine require a specific distributor or can I use any sbc? I have an HEI new but I also have the original that came on the TPI engine.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: TPI Distributor
Ok if no one can answer the question, which distributor are you using with your TPI engine?

Re: TPI Distributor
You need to use a factory type computer controlled distributor. There are only 3. Small cap, large cap with screws to hold the cap down and large cap with L clamps to hold the cap down. That's it. No secret. No vast array. Just buy a quality one. Performancedistributors.com is such a place though you can probably buy one from summit or jegs or rockauto with good results.
Which distributor is on you car now? Why do you want a replacement?

Re: TPI Distributor
I have a crate engine that I am installing and it has the large HEI distributor in it and wasn't sure if it would work.
I have the one that came with the original engine, it's a small cap with external coil.
Also using Fitech Standalone controller.
Thanks for your reply!

Re: TPI Distributor
If using an FItech system, you will need to use what that system requires. The tpi itself is of little consequence in this case since you're not using the factory type ecm.
I'm not quite sure the requirements for FItech though any paperwork or their website should provide that information.

Re: TPI Distributor
FiTech requires small cap external coil as per the instruction manual, which I would suggest reading. They also do not provide the subharness that goes from the coil to the distributor, I got mine from Michigan Motorsports.
