High Idle

I have a 1986 305 TPI . When attempting to upgrade to 1989 tune using ARAP bin idle will not reduce from approx 1200 rpm. Tried burning a chip and using emulator with same result. After installing 1986 bin chip idle returns to normal.
Any suggestions would be welcome

Re: High Idle

My '86 305 Teepee-Eye runs with an ARAP-based binary. Idle is normal at a given temperature. Of course, "normal" is what I've set the tables and adders to achieve. The combination of target idle tables for CTS, idle RPM adders for A/C, park/neutral, cooling fan, stall-saver, , plus IAC step adders for drive, keep-alive, etc. will result in a sum which becomes the idle RPM.

Re: High Idle

Thanks for your reply.

No reason , I was advised either was OK. I will try APYM.

I don't recall any rapid blinking with emulation but it could've been evident. Was concentrating on idle reading.
Testing was done after engine reached normal operating temperature.

Hi
Do you have a datalog of the event? An XDL file we could look at?
When you revert to original BIN, does it go back to normal?
What is your original BIN?
Has to be AT, since it's '86, right?
Thanks

Re: High Idle

FYI,

With TunerPro, there is a "Difference tool" you can use along with your XDF, to see the difference between your original tune and the one you want to run. You have to extract your original tune first.

NOPE, won't work in your case. Sorry for misinformation.

Hope this helps

If I understand this correctly, put into context, you are saying that ARAP will work on '86 305 TPI as long as you tune it properly. Thus, if not tuned properly, it won't work. Is that what you are saying?
Thanks

It is not possible. Posted faster than my brain could process like usual. Thanks for reminding me!

Re: High Idle

I think you can open up in multiple screens to do a compare that way. Just thought you knew a trick to compare different masks .

How do you open up in multiple screens? I haven't figure out this one yet.

Computer tells me TunerPro is already running.

Can we run 2 XDF at same time with 2 different BIN?

Re: High Idle

The original is possibly the AUM8993, and if so, had some problems.

I went from a modified stock bin using $32b, to a modified ARAP bin with $6E. Car runs great. But my idle is a little higher then what it's set for in the tune. No vacuum leaks or mechanical issues. If I switch back to the old mask/bin it idles where it's set at in the tune. Never was able to figure out why.

Many thanks
If idle was a “ little higher” I would not be concerned . Will do some more testing tomorrow.

You might want to look into some of the aforementioned adders, such as Park/Neutral vs. Drive steps (percentage), fan anticipate steps, A/C steps, IAC Steps / percent TPS, etc.
