L98 Valve Seal Replacement- maybe 1.6 roller rockers

Ok folks I have a ‘88 GTA L98 with 106k plus miles. It needs valve seals replaced so I ask you who has the best seals? I have read a bunch of the threads and saw FEL Pro, Mahle, use Viton material seals. Looking at Howard’s Cam Viton seals 93360. What says you?

Interested in 1.6:1 roller rockers. I understand they must be self aligning and have to clear the valve covers. I have seen some say check rod length and springs. I see Jegs has an economical set but wondered if anyone has experience on a stock L98?

Re: L98 Valve Seal Replacement- maybe 1.6 roller rockers

I always use standard positive seals from felpro. I get two sets of intake seals and run them on all 16. They’re leaps and bounds better than the o-ring/umbrella nonsense. Been doing it for 25+ years.

As far as the rockers, you’re better off spending the money on a cam. For what the rockers cost, and the next-to-zero gain you’ll get, slide a cam in it. You’ll get a bigger gain than the best set of rockers on the planet could provide.

I got these for my 350 (L98 stock intake, cam & heads)

https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/20145/10002/-1

Clears the covers and tubes (for the cover bolts). Didn´t notice any gains at all but I like the fact that they´re in there. Just make sure the pushrod doesnt' bind on pushrod hole in the heads (as the pushrods moves closer to the rocker studs). A cam will of course make more power.....and is a LOT more wrenching.

Mine needed valve seals since day 10. Seriously. Never bothered to do them, or even have it done under warranty. 80000 miles later.. motor is still fine. It's oil pre lube....

Re: L98 Valve Seal Replacement- maybe 1.6 roller rockers

If you're gonna' do the seals, might as well install some 1.6 rockers. Invest the $$ saved by doing the work yourself right back into the car. It's not like there's 1-BIT of extra work involved !

I've use cheap STEEL FULL ROLLER rockers MANY times on mild/stock street engines and have never once regretted it. You just gotta' cut a couple valve cover "braces" under the stock covers for most RR's, but that's about it. You can get a bad rocker out of the box from anyone,......... just inspect what-ever you buy REAL good before installing it. Setting lash, checks for binding,....... you gotta' know what you're doing obviously, but I've never had a problem after installing 1.6 RR's. For what-it's worth: I put about almost 4K (pretty hard) miles on this set of cheap rockers this season; WELL WORTH the (minor) expense.
