Which style aftermarket runners 85-88 or 89 and up style?
I have an 88’ L98 with cold start deleted with block off kit and new PROM and want to go with AS&M runners and a TPIS big mouth base. When speaking with ASM they mentioned I should go with 89 and up runners because I deleted cold start...I was under the impression I needed to stick with 85-88 style because of slight differences in plenum and TB? I just want to be sure before purchasing runners.

Both will work. 89 and up are blocked off at the flange, 88 and down you'd use the block off you have.

Awesome, the ASM guy mentioned that they just block off the cold start and it is the only difference between the two but I just wanted to be sure. I saw many old posts saying not to use the later runners on 88’ and under but they appeared to still be running the cold start injector. I will order the 89’ and up. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I thought of that but wanted to keep the TPI look with old school go fast parts. I also don’t have enough mods to justify it with no plans for a head swap or cam on the horizon I didn’t think I would ever take advantage of the FIRST’s capabilities. I thought you needed a new ECM set up to run that as well.

Tuning? Yeah it'll help. It's maf so it'll partly compensate. Tuned Performance can probably get you sorted out easily enough though.

Plus you get a new throttle body that's doesn't have clapped out bushings, new fuel rails, etc. You will need to install an external regulator but that's minor in the grand scheme.
