Low fuel pressure 30psi after new pump install

Hey guys I installed an a/c delco fuel pump on my 86 Iroc with a 350 L98 non roller and now Im only getting 30psi at key on. Once I turn key off fuel pressure drops to 0. Has a new fuel pressure regulator diaphram (second one) just to eliminate as problem. New injectors 22#. Ninth injector has been deleted. Before old pump went I was getting 38-40psi key on and pressure holding after key off. Ran good just one day would not start and checked everything. Bad pump. After replacing pump car ran but not like it did before. Just wanting some input before I drop the tank again and replace pump. Thanks.

Did you replace the fuel filter? Could be plugged up.

See the attached procedure to test for fuel pressure. You will need some way to individually clamp off the rubber lines between the hard lines coming from under the master cylinder and the hard lines going into the engine.

Re: Low fuel pressure 30psi after new pump install

Thanks. I had already did the pinching of the return and feed lines. Pinching return line and priming pump with a jumper pressure went to 40psi only. I am going to get another gauge just to eliminate it as a possible problem. Guage is over 10 years old. Bur pressure still drops to zero as soon as I pull the jumper. With pinching the feed right after it primes and pulling jumper pressure holds. According to the chart it could be the rubber hose or pulsator leaking. I did away with the pulsator per threads I have read here. Oh and I have the AFPR turned as far in as it goes and presssue only builds to 40psi. Dropping the tank and checking lines and putting the pulsator back on. Going to test the pressure before tank goes up. Going with a different pump (walpro or equivalent) if pressure stays the same. Thanks again.

Just for grins, check the voltage.

I've got a Walbro that's been in the car for a year and it started making a lot of noise on Tuesday. I have a feeling I'm going through the same job soon. Can't say I'm looking forward to doing a fuel pump again so soon.

Please let us know what you found out and good luck!

Re: Low fuel pressure 30psi after new pump install

Ok guys got the tank dropped and wow is all I can say with what I found. First let me (I should have mentioned this) tell you all that this car onky gets turned kn every other weekend and hardly driven. This pump was put in a while back, 2 months or so. I put a new fuel filter, new pump sock and pump. Car turned on super fast and ran good. Had about 5 gallons of fresh 87 octane gas. Since it doesnet get driven often I put some Lucas fuel treatment in it. Well back to dropping the tank. I removed the fuel filter and it was rattling. Will out video up. Well I blew thru the inlet side to see if it was clogged. Flowed free but some gas got on mh lips and in less then a second my lips went super numb! I rinsed my mouth bit my lops stayed mumb for awhile. Cut open the fuel filter to see what had happened. Posting pics. After that proceeded to dropping the tank. The new pump went in with a black rubber protector/ sleeve? Well it was totally gone see pics. The only thong I can think did this was the fuel lucas fuel treatment. As I pulled the pump assembly it statred crystalizing and everthing turned white on the assembly! The sock had also suffered aswell as the black gasket that goes under the inbetween the sock and pump. Wow! Has anybody seen this?

My walbro installed less than 1 year ago started making noise a few days ago. I have a feeling I'm dropping the tank soon and going to be seeing something similar. My tank was cleaned and coated, too!
