HELP DIAGNOSE MY 89 GTA! (w/ video)
My 89 GTA 350 TPI has been giving me problems lately and i cant figure it out for the life of me.
This started happening on the way home during a 17 hour road trip, driving from chicago to rapid city, SD. this car has been family owned its whole life and was first owned by my uncle, where it sat in florida year round and he barely ever took it out. it spent its life in florida up until last year when my brother bought it and brought it to chicago, and for the whole year he owned it he only put about 30 miles total on it. the car has 50k original miles. this 17 hour trip was obviously asking alot of it since it mainly sat its whole life, so im assuming theres alot of things that could have gone wrong.
first off, it idles pretty rough. before it didnt surge like it does in the video. but my main issue is when driving and slowing down/coming to a stop, it will bog down and die. this happens once its warmed up, and it becomes very hard to restart it, ill generally have to wait a half hour or so for it to cool down before i can restart it.
So far i have tested the TPS, at idle its at .54 and over 4 WOT. ive removed the throttle body, cleaned it (didnt really need it, was pretty damn clean), replaced all gaskets, and also replaced the IAC valve. ive replaced the distributor cap and rotor. ive replaced the fuel filter and o2 sensor. ive checked for vacuum leaks all around the intake manifold, runners, fuel injectors, and vacuum hoses with carb cleaner... no luck.
Im starting to become very frustrated. living in south dakota, i only have about a month left until it starts snowing, where the car will hibernate until spring. im also in the military and am most likely deploying in january, and all i want to do is enjoy my car for a little bit. if anyone lives in south dakota and would like to come help me, i would greatly appreciate it. but if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Does the car have the original injectors? If so, you may want to test them as those gm multecs are notorious for failing. I guy I know with a 1991 z28 with 8,000 kms replaced his. I had to replace mine as well as 4 out of the 8 seized.
Beautiful, clean, trans am btw.

i have experienced/am experiencing similar issues and have tried similar remedies. the rabbit hole i'm going down right now involves changing out the Fuel Pressure Regulator for an Adjustable one (because the diaphram in the stock FPR may have gone bad) and why not upgrade while i'm in there? anyway, as a first step, rather than blindly spring for the new regulator like i did, i would suggest having the fuel pressure tested.
that is a very nice looking and sounding Trans Am, btw, so dont give up on 'er. although i personally dont care for the IMO, over-stated, '98-'02 Ram Air style hoods, at least yours is functional which is cool.

so today i tested my injectors with a multimeter using 200 ohms. they tested as followed...
16.0, 07.2, 15.8, 15.3, 03.2, 17.5, 12.0, 06.5
arent they all supposed to be over 14? did i finally diagnose my problem? was going to do the screwdriver listening test but the car refuses to start when its hot.

just went out and started the car and did the screwdriver test, and i could clearly hear them all. does the low ohms on the 4 of them still make them bad?

I think around 16 ohms is the normal reading for the 22# injectors. You have 4 bad ones for sure. Like others have said, if you have the original injectors, it's time to replace them all. Get you a set of reconditioned Bosch injectors from South Bay. http://www.southbayfuelinjectors.com

What was the fuel pressure like? Did you pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure reg and see if there was gas present?
Yeah, looks like its time for new injectors from Southbay on here. You won't be disappointed. Fast shipping also. Get the gasket set at the same time. Its a pretty easy quick job to do.
And again....Beautiful GTA!

Re: HELP DIAGNOSE MY 89 GTA! (w/ video)
My car was doing the same. Last weekend I replaced the injectors while replacing the intake gasket. Could not be happier. Nice smooth idle now. You'll need the 22lb and they are stock fit.(plug and play ) Call south bay. They will hook you up. Vary nice people to deal with.

checked fuel pressure today and it was good. can anyone tell me if these are the stock injectors by just looking at them?
