Will 89-up TPI runners fit 85-88 system that already has cold start delete?
Hey guys, will 89-up TPI runners fit a 85-88 TPI sytem that has the cold start delete?
I have a 85 TPI sytem on my Monte Carlo SS. It has the cold start delete kit and I'm running an ECM and Memcal for 89. I want to get a set of SLP runners someday and thought I should be able to get the later style runners since I am already setup with cold start delete. Am I correct?

Only if you use the plenum and throttle body with it.
But you can mod the throttle body to work with the late plenum.

Yes, I did it. But just like Don mentioned, you need the whole thing, plenum, runners and TB .. OR... you can use your existing TB but it needs to be slightly modded. If you do use the 89+ TB, then you need to use a different throttle cable as the throttle lever on the side is different.
Not a big deal. I had my original TB modified to work with the 89 plenum and runners.
*** I did find the 89+ throttle cable just in case in the future I need to use it. I found a new cable through PartsVoice... Forgot what the part number was at this moment.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know that I would need a 89-up plenum. I'm glad I asked. When I get the SLP runners, I'll stick with the 85-88 style and re-use my cold start delete kit.

The runners will work on the 85-88 plenum but you will need to tap and use a npt plug .This was the port that was used for incoming air on the lh side of the plenum. A expansion plug with silicone around it works well too.

Tuned Performance, nice to hear from you. I would like to say that the info you have posted on this site has helped me allot with the TPI swap in my 87 Monte Carlo SS. I had a weird IAC problem and your posts helped me to resolve it. Thanks again.
Concerning the runners, I've looked at several pictures of both styles of runners and it appears that when GM deleted the cold start injector, they just removed the tube and did not drill the hole in the flanges. The flanges still appear to be the same shape. So there shouldn't be an air leak. But you guys know more about this than I, so since everyone says it will not work without plugging holes and such, then ok. Not a big deal, I'll just order the early style and reuse my cold start delete. Just trying to keep a clean look. I'll post some pictures if I ever figure out how to do that.

Hi Fred , long time no chat , If I remember correct the 89-92 runners don't fully cover the passage in the 85-88 plenum which would create a vacuum leak if not plugged. the web site project ws6 has the best price but unless you replace the hardware or paint it it rusts fast.
