Motor Mount

Had the car jacked up in the air trying to chase down an oil leak, and noticed my passenger side motor mount has a tear in it. think it is still good for now, or replace asap?

Re: Motor Mount

I would replace that ASAP with a set off polyurethane mounts. While your at it you might as well get the transmission mount too. Energy suspension sells a kit with both engine mounts and the trans mount, Summit sells it for $60.

Re: Motor Mount

Kinda curious as to what I have found. The mounts are not sitting square on the K-Frame. The picture in post one is of the pass side. Here is the driver side which shows the front bolt hole hanging over the edge.

Is this normal? For some as critical as motor mounts, I would expect them to fit better than that.

Please forgive my "noobness" in the matter.

Re: Motor Mount

Is there a definitive How-To for changing these things out?
The service manual simply says:
"1. Remove mount retaining bolt from below frame
mounting bracket.
2. Raise front of engine and remove
mount-to-engine bolts and remove mount. Raise
engine only enough for sufficient clearance.
Check for interference between rear of engine and
cowl panel.
3. Replace mount to engine and lower engine into
place.
4. Install retaining bolt and torque all bolts to
specifications.."

Not very helpful.

any help would be appreciated..thanx in advance.

Re: Motor Mount

well.. i havent done it myself but since i have the poly mounts and have been planning to do it heres what i have seen so far... support that engine-i hear a hoist (cherry picker) is best but if you use a jack make sure you have it supported right (obviously).. itll want to move on you though.
take out that center bolt, theres a nut on one end and a bolt on the other, you need to get a wrench on both (well a wrench and ratchet.. possibly a breaker bar)
get that out and then get the engine raised up so you can access the bolts on the frame- i have heard something about the a arms being in the way but i forget now, may need to remove one for access (should be used to this if you have had to work on your car in any way... have to take a ton of the belt driven stuff off to replace the water pump on a v-belt system)
take the frame bolts off and slide it out (may have to use a hammer and something to reach down in there to knock it free.
you will have to drill out the middle weld (at least on most if not all)
then i would guess puttin it back in is pretty much a straightforward battle
hope this helps, this is just what i have gathered so far, if anyone has a correction please by all means correct away
