TPI Tear Down

Tearing apart my TPI to find the rear intake coolant ports having this milky white deposits in them. Anyone seen this before? Looks like oil in the coolant, but how?

Re: TPI Tear Down

as many intakes as I have had off of hundreds of vehicles, this just looks like normal higher mileage deposits. If you keep the coolant serviced more often, usually this stuff isn't as much. I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it clean from now on....

Re: TPI Tear Down

Thanks! Just checking because this is my first motor rebuild and I am trying to do it myself because of cost.

Re: TPI Tear Down

So I am back with a few more questions. Having trouble making a few decisions and would appreciate some advice.

My goal right now: is to fix the coolant leaks both in the intake and heads gasket so I can drive it for a while before rebuilding the motor.

Scenario: Car has 150K on it so I have to assume the heads have 150K on them, they are the 083 cast iron heads. Right now I do not have the time nor money to work on the short block so I am definitely not putting new heads on the car yet.

Are all head shops created equal, probably not so is there something I should be ask or looking for?

So it probably would make sense to have a head shop shave them since the 083 heads have 76cc cambers. At least that way they are super smooth.

But I am stuck if I should put any other time and money into them.

The intake ports need porting, how hard or easy is it to get a porting kit and match to the intake gasket? Do I need to pull the valves out or can I just put the port facing down and clean it well after porting? Is it worth the time and money?

Do I invest in a valve job? If I do that do I need need springs, retainers, etc. Is it worth it for these heads or can I drive it as is for another 50K miles with no problems?

Hoping someone who has experience with these heads can give me some guidance.
