I have a modified 85 running rather rich and I can't find the problem. It has the engine and comp from an 87 350. A.I.R is removed, hooker shorty headers no cat. Sat for 10 years so I replaced, MAF, TPS, IAC, IAT. TPS is .54v idles fine so I think the IAC is set ok. Injectors check out good (15.8- 16.4 ohm). Plug wires are good, plugs are new and gapped proper. But the poor ole girl is hard to start (have to play with the throttle yet starts instantly when it's 90+ outside) and runs rather rich. Oh... Also have installed a vintage air a/c, when its on the engine gradually overheats and every time I stop the idle drops to 400 than bounces back to 750 which I'm blaming on it running rich but if it points to a different problem I thought I'd mention it.

Timing is dead on, fuel is 46 regulator disconnected and 36 connected. Checked cap and rotor both are good.

Re: Rich 87 350tpi

No no no! Wrong info. You install a 350 in an 85 TPI car, cool. You need 22lbs injectors and a custom chip for the 22lbs injectors and for a tune. This will solve your problem. DONT SPEND ANYMORE MONEY ON ANYTHING ELSE TIL YOU DO THID FIRST. If you already have 22lbs injectors you still need a chip for it . Your stock chip is for the 305 with 19lbs injectors and the computer sees or thinks it has 19lbs injectors. This is why its running rich.

Re: Rich 87 350tpi

Computer, wiring harness, and tpi unit are 87 350. Injectors are 22lb. It ran like a Swiss watch before it went into storage. It has leveled out a lot, gas mileage is up, runs stronger but still stinks. I think I have a mechanical problem. I'm burning oil and I'm getting a tick I don't like.

Long story short a couple months before the car went into storage I went home for Christmas for a couple weeks. A friend of mine borrowed it, and beat the **** out of it and crashed it. He told me he hit black ice and tagged a fire hydrant... Latter I find out there was a hit and run with a yellow mustang, so I think he over revved it and floated the valves and I'm lucky the damn thing runs at all.
