Intake gasket material

As the title suggests, what is the material used to make intake gaskets(runners, tb), and what do you recommend? I need to make sure custom ones and want to get a sheet to do so. A quick search online gave me a Mr. Gaskets gasket sheet. The link is below:

If I am not mistaken this material is similar (if not the same) as the one used for oil pan gaskets. Would this be suitable for the intake? Thanks

Re: Intake gasket material

I believe I used something similar, only from Fel-Pro. I actually just went down to AutoZone and bought it there. They had a couple different thicknesses and it's easier to decide when you can see and touch it. The runners and TB should be able to use a very standard type gasket material.

To make the gaskets (I made my own when I siamesed my runners) I made an outline of the part and cut the gasket with a razor. I then use a small hammer to tap on the gasket while it was sitting on the part. This made an outline of the exact shape I needed.

Re: Intake gasket material

That is exactly what I need the material for. I have siamesed a pair of runners and need a new gasket to make it work. Are there any issues with using this type of material for intake gaskets? I know the stock ones have the metal mesh within them, but I think this is for strength more than anything else.

Re: Intake gasket material

I have siamesed runners and base, had to make my own gaskets out of previously mentioned gasket paper. Had no problems with it though. Couldn't help you out as to what brand/material to get though, everything I used was free to me lol.

I have a Super Ram on my Vette. the gaskets for the Super Ram have no metal lining in them so I figure you'll be OK. I also thought of making my own. Its $50 for a set for me.

Re: Intake gasket material

Or, you could just walk into any auto parts store and order the correct gaskets, complete with the plastic locator nipples. Part # is Fel-Pro MS93160:

I haven't done it, but others here have. Like eseibel67 mentioned, there's not really too much that will cause a problem with the gaskets.

While most of us (myself included) wouldn't ever use a cereal box for any sort of permanent installation, it certainly can be used in a pinch, and even for a permanent situation, any similar cardboard stock can be used instead of paying more money for gasket material that's not going to be any better.

Re: Intake gasket material

Interesting. I want to do a couple tests with different runners on my car. This may fit the bill for a temp solution instead of making and wasting gasket material between changes.
