1987 Trans Am 350 TPI idle issue. Was 305 originally.
OK,
Just bought this car as a project. If I can get the engine running well enough to drive I would be stoked!
The car will only start with full throttle and pumping the pedal once it tries to start.
After that you have to stay on the pedal to about 1500RPM to keep it running. Revs up nice but will occasionally back fire.
Distributor is not HEI. Block is likely an older 350 but the heads are still center bolt. I didn't do the swap and know little about it. Sounds really nice when its running just cant let off the gas or it dies and then the engine light comes on. When revved the light is off.
Any suggestions?
Originally a 305 car but I had an ECM for a L98 car I had and the car ran the same when switched. I found the original 305 ECM with some spare parts so I assumed it was already switched to a L98 ecm.
Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions? Previouse owner said it did run well after swap but after he had it for a few months it started the idle issue.

Thanks!
I'll try another MAF I have though i found a receipt in the car indicating it had been changed about a year ago. I have also found a receipt for a new TPS.
Guess I'll try a few of those to see if there is any change for better.
If no change I'll try another Throttle body. Fortunately I have a few spare TPI setups.

I thought maybe the injectors if they used the original 305s with the swap.
Anyone know what the pressure should be on the injectors for a 350?
I'll be swapping a different Throttle body on it this week to see if it runs any better.
Has to be something simple! I HOPE!

Check your vacuum lines on the upper intake plenum. I had a similiar problem with mine a few years back and it turned out to be a loose vacuum port for the fuel pressure regulator.
