Do i even have an option? tpi on 406 sbc

ok, i have a 70s 400 sbc block, with procomp 210 cc aluminum heads. a very budgeted build, and i cant afford the stealth ram right now..

My question is.. is there any way i can make the factory tpi work, because my intake ports are visible with the tpi base on.. or does anyone make a base intake to fit these heads? will post pics if your not following me

Yes,the Edelbrock base plate has larger runners and it has two angles machine on the two inner bolt to work with early and late model heads. I have a friend that ran low 12's with a 383 and the same TPI set up.

I replied to the other thread and see this is what I was concerned about. 1206 port on a 1204-ish port base. I believe aftermarket bases can be ported to 1205 but to really get a tall port you have to cut and weld the base up. Need to raise the port roof up and move injector bungs up higher.

LOTS of work but these mods help get manifold flow up over 275cfm to better suit most 195-210cc heads.

Are the heads large (1206 ) regular port SBC heads or Vortec style ( tall / thin ).
If Vortec style heads , can get Vortec TPI base but is best part of the price of a HSR

Reg intake on Vortec heads

Just done some research.
PC sites states
"Heads are drilled for both the earlier style intake bolt pattern (pre '87) and the newer Vortec style "
Makes no mention of port style/ size / shape?

BUT Vortec port is completely different shape to reg port so as Orr89RocZ states you would need a raised runner aftermarket intake

Given the port shape, Vortec TPI base would be best choice allowing you to keep TPI

But at $470 for base only
Vortec HSR is not much more for superior intake

Yeah if you want TPI you will need the vortec baseplate. Stock wont work.
