Re: 305 rebuild
Boring an engine when it doesn't need it is a waste of time and money.
Do you have headers on it?

Re: 305 rebuild
i bored mine over .30 and you can really tell, put a slightly bigger cam, valves, etc. and i beat 350's all the time. boring the motor is a good idea i have mine set up for nos and i run with ls1's. just make sure you have a good flowing set up. headers and exhaust are huge if you are doing cam swap. glad to see someone else believes in the lb9!

Re: 305 rebuild
it depends what you are looking for daily driver, street strip, or track only. but it is important to have all the other components that will work with the cam you want. from heads to headers and even a decent stall converter. there is alot to take into consideration for a proper cam swap.

Re: 305 rebuild
I doubt you can really tell the difference from boring alone. Boring a 305 .030 over increases the displacement by a whopping 1.6%. Hardly cost-effective when there are sooooo many things you can do a lot more easily for a lot less money that actually do make a difference. Boring is to correct cylinder-wall wear, not to make power.

Re: 305 rebuild
What ever you decide to do with the cam, make sure you get the heads cleaned, new springs put on and get some screw in rocker studs. The stock pressed in studs WILL come out. It happened to me when I was just learning about this stuff 8 years ago. Mr Gasket makes a good screw in stud that takes less machining than others. Summit Racing part # for these studs is MRG-1076. Also getting a valve job done would be a nice idea while you have them at the machine shop.

Re: 305 rebuild
Really? I thought there was some way around it with like a cross over pipe or something. I've got the same car as this guy, and even the same color but mine is a 5 speed. I'd like to mod mine up too.
