Looking good, maybe on the road this summer? I like the hidden wires in the engine bay. Any idea on performace and streetability of the setup? I took about a year to get mine where it is today and to be honest near the end I just wanted to get it done and drive it after working on it all that time. Kudos to you on the detail you've put in it. I'm sure it will be a fun drive.

Wow, surprised I havn't seen this yet! Your attention to detail is amazing, especially on the underside of the car. Very curious to see what kind of power that 305 puts down. Judging by your vids, the cam doesn't sound overly aggressive, but a blower cam doesn't need to be. Looks like it's going to be a show stopper when done.....I'd love to see it in person too when she's finished since I am in Northern CT. Probably about 45 mins from you. Not sure if you've stumbled accross my build but I am doing a complete restoration/LSx swap in my bird...very similiar to the work you have into yours. Check it out if you have a chance. Can't wait to see more progress on yours!

Yep, I'm doing it. Why you ask, because I like the idea of the underdog, and maybe some bragging rights, and because I can. Look guys, i know the whole "no replacement for displacement" stuff addage, but the displacement doesn't concern me with this project. My Z28 came with the 305, and I'm sticking with it. The little engine is sitting on an engine stand. I've inspected the 20+ year old with 74k miles on it.... the tollerances are in check, crank end play, lifters are in good shape, overall bottom end looking good. I'm going to build this little mother up without any machining to see what she can do. My build was initially going to be a Golen 383 TPI or ZZ4 TPI build. But...things change, and I've changed my mind again!
I'm actually looking for feedback. Okay, let me also say the Willie has also inspired me (his approach was obviously a bit different). My goal is to take a used gen I short block and see what it'll do. I'm looking for a streetable weekend warrior, that will hold it's own on the street.

Ask the mechanic and find out. You really can't put a timeframe on something like that because chances are, you will run into a problem or two while swapping engines. I can ussually pull a motor and get a new one in in a weekend, but I have no idea how many hours it would be.

Like TA said, contact a dealer to get an estimate. You'll need to provide additional information though. Is there an engine in the car now that needs to come out first? Also, would you be looking for the engine to be installed and that is it or would you be looking for other things to be done while you're at it?

this sounds like fun, if i could do it over...i would of stuck w the 305 and built it up, but no went with a 383 stroker..less say 10k wasted, so now i currently going bad tpi only with a 350 and jus gonna do light mods to it. lol.

wasnt a waste in performance just money wise, didnt have 2500miles on it yet and it threw a rod..never got to get it dyno'd or smash it down and let her fly. just sucks cuase i could of did so much more to my camaro with that money and still get a decent hp outta the 305tpi with wut i spent jus on the motor.

I actually got the headliner done at the place you recommended in Windor Locks. The guy talks super fast..funny. He did a good job and quickly at that.
I got the weatherstripping from a place called Soft Seal. Overall, I fairly satisfied. Just a couple things to note. My driver door is having difficulty closing without some force. I thought about adjusting the striker, but it's where it needs to be. It may just need to compress and settle in. Passenger fits better. Around the T-tops, the seals fit nice in terms of where the countours and corners need to be but the bottom part of the seal that rides inside of the metal frame rails, could be a little wider. Another issue is the design they used to make the tab/attach points to the top of the doors. They are very flimsy and weak. One of the tabs pulled right out of the weather strip seal by loosening the screw. I need to send that feedback to the company- so this is a good reminder. Last interesting point is they emit a really nice smell. They actually smell like a car freshener. I'm sure the fumes are harmful..but..

Great info on the seals, thanks! As far as the job, I didn't get it but I have been doing lots of sidejobs on freinds cars so I've been making a decent amount of extra cash that way. Not a big deal, I'm not really in the hole for cash right now lol. And yea, that guy in windsor locks does great work. Looks like it came out awesome!

Good choice on the l98 heads they will drop your overall CR so if you stick with them definately boost it.
Boosted apps like less overlap just like comp cams said to you. ( to retain boost ) IMO an off the shelf grind might work ok but i prefer to call the company ( i used Cam Motion. tell em the specs and they will get you a great running cam.
As far as the cleaning up the firewall.... I pulled my HVAC in its entirety and that was a mistake. I could live without a/c (yea right) but in the winter the car never warms up.. its pretty brutal. And having a fan to move air around is a big thing

Thanks very much. I don't think many people care or even think to look, but it is important to me. If anyone else notices or appreicates it as well, it's all the more meaningful to me. If I see a car that looks near perfect at a show, I'll usually check the undercarriage to see how much trouble they went through. Thanks again!

Yep, I think I'm going to really regret removing the blower, then heater core, the heating / cooling duct work. This is going to impact resale value for sure. ah.. I may have to hunt a 3rd gen down and pull all that stuff from a donor car, and then go with the a/c delete firewall box. hindsight..
