Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
No way, I would rather buy good (expensive) part and change it once than a cheap one I have to keep messing with. I dont have time for that.
I actually found something ultimately cheaper than going to true vortec's, which is the EQ hybrids (ch350G or H), which basically saves you the intake and valve cover expenses...so now im just waiting for some pictures of the heads to look at, then im going to do a leakdown and compression test before I commit to the stock short block. I have a feeling it will be fine but you never know.

What a cool build. LOL. I really like this. Good for you! Glad to see someone actually working with what we had before. Can't believe I missed this thread after all this time.. but this really makes me want to do the same thing, except stick with my 355 instead of doing the 383 just to see how much power I can make with what I have.
Awesome.
Awesome.

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
I did a lot of searching for just that and found that the "best" solution for aftermarket Vortec style I could find is milling. The decks are extra thick so you can mill to the size you need, they say this somewhere in their documentation, don't have it off hand though. Sorry it's vague but it's something to look into at least.

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
right, and that's fine, but the last time I looked for them I couldn't find assembled ones at all assembled with smaller valves.
If you start with unassembled heads and take them to a machine shop you'll never get them done for less $ than a set of aftermarket aluminum heads, especially in an area like where I live where you just can't get machine work done cheaply (last I checked, I can mail order a set of rebuilt heads for cheaper than I can have my own heads rebuilt at a local machine shop)

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
you know, i have zero issues spending money as long as it's reasonable/justified.
up my sleeve... I want to run some boost through the LB9 in my TA, but the current heads have smoking valve stems/stemseals and figured I'd do a little clean up in the process. Since work and life has been insane lately I'd almost rather just buy a new set that will work with the cam that I'm running if I can find something reasonable.

http://www.aeroheadracing.com/id7.html and the fact that they can be ordered with a 58cc chamber and I also know they flow a little over 225cfm intake and 185cfm exhaust. For $400 a pair assembled with your choice of valve springs you cant argue with that.
What i'd like to know is what casting are they?

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
There is this co. called Aerohead that I am looking at. I have heard both sides on the matter and I do not have enough info to make my own decision yet. Currently what I do know is listed here:

I've tried emailing them and calling them recently thinking the same thing (and to confirm that they still have 58cc heads, they don't list them on the site anymore) and haven't gotten a response to my email and the phone number on the site doesn't appear to work... If you manage to get in touch with them I'd like to hear about it

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
I bought heads from them before and they usually have a few typical castings in each range. I have a set of early 80's 305 truck heads from them that I ordered with 2.02/1.60 valves that I was pretty happy with.

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
the number listed on the website was disconnected (at least when I tried this afternoon).
and yes, for early 80's heads they start with small chamber 601's (they start in the low 50's, typically around 52) and machine them for larger valves which puts them around 58 by the time you get them.
do you have the number you called?

LMFAO, how cool is that van runnin' mid 14's, how many minds do you blow w/ that sliding sideways down the road w/ smoke rolling off the rear tires, please tell me you have a posi or limited slip rear to make that thing fun as hell. I have always had a soft spot for conversion vans, Hmmmmmm, now my want bells are blasting off, gee thanks, now I want something like this now!!!! LOL... cool rig dude.

Re: 356 RWHP TPI 310 Build
hard time swallowing those numbers but what does go over real well is you moving that brick to a 14 thats pretty damn good in fact that will stay with an L98 C4 thats pulling a quicker 60 ft than you...so your van is running the Vette down some
