305 help

I have a 1991 z28 with the tpi 305. I'm looking to get the car on the road this summer. I want to get some decent power out of the 305. does anyone have any good power combos that work well and any hp numbers out of a 305?

Re: 305 help

Depends on what you want to do.
The best thing you can do it headers and a nice exhaust.

Maybe a different rear end gear?
High flow runners and intake?
Port your plenum?
Cam?
maybe getting some head work done?

All depends on your pocket book.

mods I did are in my sig.

Re: 305 help

I had a 305 with edelbrock intake, 650 carb, hooker headers, exh. and thats it. i have no idea what kind of numbers it would put down, but i can tell you that it had a good amount of power and it was really snappy. I kept up with a civic hatch w/ a turbo.

Its the Summit K1102, 204/214 duration, .423/.442 lift, both @.050. Should be computer friendly with TPI, its a defintely imporvement over stock. With carb, I would go with something in the 212/218 and .460 lift range if I had built this motor.

If you're going to pull a 305 out, make it worth your time and put a 350 back in. For the cost of a 335 you could easily build a 350 for the same cost that would out perform the 335.

Seen it, its a bit stretched, but doable. Change nothing but the block and you'd have 415hp on a 350.

Re: 305 help

Why not get a cam thats compatable with the stock map ecm and some headers with a cat back exhaust.

maybe
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_52576_-1

Thats what I would do and then just go drive it.

Re: 305 help

Don't waste a dime on any of this stuff that doesn't have long term use, get a nice exhaust and set of headers then spend the cash getting the software to datalog and burn your own proms. Next mod I'de be looking into after that would be a 350.

Re: 305 help

372 horsepower is pretty good..and you can still drive your car while you wait for the money for a 350. Oh and you can still blow lt1's off the road while your waiting for your "better" engine. Then you can take all of the performance stuff off of your 305 and bolt it directly, with no modification, into the 350. Seems like a great plan for the budget minded person

Its a perfect plan, start with the easy stuff, slowly digging deeper into them motor. If money ever starts to appear in my wallet, my 305 will get a vortec swap w/ some more cam, I can justify trashing a block with 20k miles on it for 45 C.I... not on my budget anyways.

I drive it in the spring/summer/fall. I would say its a night and weekend driver.
Plus it sees a lot of car shows.
I'm not afraid to drive it places though. This year its getting a new paint job.
And the 305....It holds its own. Its got some power, and its a lot of fun to drive.
