testing an iac

anyway to do this? im currently rebuilding the throttle on my 85 vette (actually the whole top end but i started with the throttle) and the car always had somewhat of an idle problem but when i went to remove the iac i noticed it was loose (like, i took it out with my fingers no problem) so if i can test it to make sure it works and the car idled bad because it was loose id prefer that over buying a new one. i know theyre on the cheap side but any money i dont have to spend i can put somewhere else. any thoughts would help, thanks.
