cam button
hi guys i have a 91 305 tpi auto z28 and iam getting ready to do a cam swap in it but was wondering about the cam button if it has one or not and also is it attached to the cam or the timing cover? the reason iam asking is cause i was looking at getting a 2 peice timing chain cover but want to know about the button before i got one if it will work with them or not, thanx

Your 91 305 will be a roller motor. Since it has a factory roller cam, it will have a cam thrust plate bolted to the block with a thrust washer. This is what keeps the cam from walking forward (and what makes life easier in my opinion; roller cams rock :rockon: ).
edit: make sure to be conscious of this thrust plate when selecting a new timing set for your new cam, as you will need to purchase a set for an '86-up roller cam SBC (the gear has slight clearance differences because of the thrust plate).

next question , should i replace the cam thrust plate or will it be fine, or what aobut the thrust washers or anything else in there once iam at it? dont want to get inside there and figure out i needed more parts, thanx alot for the help if u can, oh iam putting in an lt1 cam if it makes a difference or not
