383 with AFR210's

Are they too big? Or shall i try something a little smaller with more velocity. The motor is a roller 383 10:1, Miniram II, T56 and 4.10's. I'm not sure on the cam yet, cause it's going to be custom ground my my application but i'm pretty sure that it's going to be rather large. Please help!

Should work good. I'm making a 383 using the 210 RR heads also. Except mine's gonna be carb'd. AFR told me expect around 550 hp at the fly with a big solid roller (which I'm gonna use).

I'm running a 383 w/ 210's which are ported to around 220cc, probably. They look very close to the size of my dad's 227 AFRs. These heads work great with the added stroke in a 350. How big is the cam? My dad is going to go w/ a 242/248 Comp SR w/ his 227, Victor Jr, and 406. You'd be well off w/ a cam around this dur. range. I'm actually running 12:1 compression with my 240/240 HR cam and the exact setup you're running. Six inch rods were a must, as well as, polished chambers, excellent Wiseco pistons, and cold plugs to run this combo on 94 oct., but mine does with 34degs total, with no knock!! Of course it was cool out, so it probably would in the summer, but it just goes to show how much auto. tech. has advanced lately. If you could up the compression to around 11:1 just to help w/ the low end tq some. The 210' really start breathing between 3500 and 4000rpm all the way to 7000. I shift at 6700 only cause of my rev kit, but in second the car starts to go sideways right at 5grand. The tach shoots up so fast w/ this setup it's rediculous, it's kind of scary. If you can get the lightest valves and tit retainers, it helps the engine spin quickly. I can't imagine my car w/ 4.11's like yours, that's insane for the street. 3.73 almost seems like too much. Good luck.

Contact Lethal EFI in a custom camshaft as TRAXION is having good luck with a Lethal EFI cam. I think the 210's will work fine for what you are doing.

Hate to be the lone dessenter, but I feel they are too big.

I just looked up what American Speed Enterprises uses on their highest HP 383 engine and it's AFR 195s.

525 HP @5800 and 515 TQ @4400 with only 9.6 CR; CompCams 242/248 hydraulic roller camshaft.

Their 510HP/535 TQ 396 SB uses the same heads but with a shorter duration camshaft: CompCams 236/242 hydraulic roller; 9.8 CR

Their 500 HP/515 TQ 383 uses the same heads.

Only their 427 SB uses the 210s; makes 550/600 HP at 6000 - 565 TQ@4600 using a 248/254 CompCams hydraulic roller and 10.0:1CR

BTW, all their engines dyno tested and tuned so the numbers they post are accurate.

Just my opinion.

Keep in mind these are the same people that made a good 383, and then built a 427 w/ more comp., a bigger cam, bigger heads and I'm willing to bet a bigger carb and only picked up 40hp at the crank. That 32hp at the wheels. Wooptie doo.

Hands down the 210cc heads. Also, when you order the heads, be sure to get the chambers sized that would put your compression around 10.5-11. This will still work just fine on pump gas and yet make more power. Combined with a good camshaft, long tubes, good exhaust and tuning, there's no reason it shouldn't make 430-460rwhp. Good luck!

Here is a good example, This 406 uses AFR 190s and has run between 11.8@120 and 11.14@123. That says a lot for the 190/195s AFR puts out, and thats on a 400

The 210's are nice.

Ditto on the milling of the head surface. Their 76cc chambers from AFR. Also for like 30 bucks more you can have them drilled out for a Stahl type bolt up design. Can we say BIG TUBES It will help if you want to run special headers because adapters are around 110 bucks.

OH and word of advise the valve springs that came on my solid roller ones were way to stiff.... they were around 420 lbs and 260 lbs which I was told could grind a lobe off the solid roller cam by the Comp Cams Tech Line. I swapped the springs out for a Comp Cams 977 I think (not sure). So you might be better off figuring out what type of cam you want for sure and letting the guys are AFR know when ordering that way you don't have to buy 2 sets of springs. ;-)

Theres a bunch of guys on the forum here that run the 210's on 383s.

The heads aren't truly around 210 there more like 215's. My main idea was bigger valve more runner means less tq at low end, but more flow at top end, which means more power usually. Who cares? I know I don't I'm gonna be using a Victor Jr, 2" 4-hole spacer, big solid roller, and a 750 speed demon dp.
