350 TPI OE heads Question
I have a new zz4 cam to install on my Iroc and new lifters. I also got a choice of installing self aligning GMPP 1.6 Roller rockers or Comp Cams 1.52 Non self Aligning Chromoly rockers. I have not been able to get a set of Aluminum heads and am probably going to use the originals. My question is that to install the zz4/Lt4 springs for the cam, I know I have to machine the head for proper fitment. DO I HAVE TO PULL THE PRESS IN STUDS AND REPLACE THEM WITH SCREW INS???? If I really have to do this, then I am just going to have to wait some more and find me some aluminum heads. If anyone knows of someone with 88-91 Corvette L98 Al. heads at a reasonable price let me know. Thanks for the help.

You'll need screw in studs.....youll find out why when you go to take the other press in studs out... The Vette heads are nice and should work really well with the ZZ4 cam....good luck

You could also just have some work done on the stock heads....have them machined for the larger springs....and have them pocket ported. Thats what I had on my old L98 with the ZZ4 cam. It ran great. Just thought Id share that with ya.......good luck

So I guess I do need the screw in studs. Anyone got some Vette 88-91 heads lying around---in good condition????

If the heads are off the engine, by all means go for it.
But you DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT to install the ZZ4 cam.
Go to www.competitionproducts.com and email / call their tech line. Tell him you're putting a cam with .500 amount of lift on your iron heads. They have springs which will handle the cam, that fit without machining, and you can use some aftermarket retainers to get MORE seal to retainer clearance at the higher lift of the new cam.
When you're changing you springs, see if any of your studs are loose, if not, I wouldn't sweat it, but that's just me.
If you plan on regularly revving the snot out of it, you might consider going ahead and putting some screw in studs in.
