I sadly had to leave at 5pm but I hope everyone had a good time and I tried my best to make a little noise when I left.

Thanks to all that voted for my car....I honestly didn't expect anything at all with all the awesome rides that were there!!
At least I won something in the "modified" category this year instead of "project"...
As far as burnout stuff, I think I wound mine up higher Than I ever had it....I didn't expect it to be that slick out...I think it was 3rd or 4th gear when the rear end started kicking out...can't remember...

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Only have one picture. Roundtrip was about 170 miles or so for me. Averaged 62mph with the cruise set mostly at 70 except for the caravan when it was all over the place. 34.9MPG, its been steadily improving as the engine breaks in. When I first got it I could barely get 24mpg out of it steady state highway cruising. If I want to get above 35MPG I have to dip below 70mph and cruise about 60mph or so. But it doesn't improve much from there, maybe low 36mpg at best. Going 75mph brings the RPM's up too high and fuel economy starts to take a big hit. Ford geared it too short.
And a small video I took while driving, shifting, and operating the camera..... It was perfectly safe...honest.

Wow...thanks for posting the vid. I knew my engine wasn't tuned right and it felt like it was down a little on power since I changed the vacuum advance hose from full intake to ported vacuum the day before the fest. Wrong move judging by how much my engine smoked.....That was flat-out...ugly.
Time to tinker with the tune before I kill this engine!!..

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Heard several remarks in one video that my car was slower than expected. Guess a car that can hook isn't respected. I'll put some cheap street tires next year I guess
Oh and if you left tracks down the road a mile, why didnt you do that to "impress" us all at the show? But didnt you just say your car dead hooks? So which story is it? Then while loading the car up I heard you say that you didnt go WOT because of all the people around. So if you weren't going to go launch the car hard and show us what you got, then why did you go out there in the first place? Did you go out there just to sandbag in front of all of us?

I'm sorry I didn't impress you enough meanz. Guess me giving my advice to your broke friend about that engine gave you a hardon against me. Yes on a colder day its tough to have a cold engine that only idles 700 cold and 1100 hot stay running. Maybe I'll put a choke on there just for you. I took the previous owner of my car from 98 for a ride in it. Launched it in second gear to check my freshly loosened converter stall and away we went. The previous owner enjoyed it and that's all I cared about. Coming back I was going to hit it but had a guy walk out in front of the car and people on either side standing on the road. If the spool kicked out and I hit someone I bet your post would sound different.
Just a fyi...."fast" cars do not snap the nose up. They slow extension to not unload the tires 30 feet out on radials. Maybe you can come to my track rental in the fall and show me how its done on my broke dick 14.2 second quarter mile chassis.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
I don't know if I said something in person that pissed people off but I learned a long time ago to not knock anyone at that show for even having a 17 second car and doing a one wheel peel leaving because to all of us our cars are our babies and we put lots of hours and money into them. End of the day there's always someone faster. With all the negative remarks made to my face and online I don't think I'll be attending this show again. Its sad that as car guys we can't just have a day to relax, eat some bbq and bs about cars without it turning nasty. I didn't drive the car around trying to prove something. I was just happy to drive it for the first time in over 16 months. Like my comment earlier maybe I should put on some crap tires that will spin and end up in the ditch to "impress" people I don't know. But overall this year put a bad taste in my mouth and makes me not want to take time away from my business to even attend. I used to like helping out the younger crowd or give suggestions. Even adjusted carbs last year for various people for free. Even if they used my gaskets etc to fix them. Guess you should make negative comments about every car that left and wasn't up to your standards.

Yea I don't know what all the animosity is. I mean some healthy or jokingly trash talk is cool but that was kind of ridiculous. Xpndbl3... I got a nice video of you backing up to get your car into position for the trailer. My phone couldn't even handle the noise. Car is clean as hell and sounds mean so 1meanZ you need to chill out homey. I'll try to post the video. Favorite part of it is when your car dies out after you come to a stop, and someone starts to yell "what a piece of!-" and they get cut off by your engine firing back up. Thought that was quite comedic, him getting cut off. 1meanZ... was that you? Chill out bro.
Xpndbl don't let that stop you from coming; this year was my first and I want to be back next year. Don't want to see the show slow down...

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Steve, you may not realize this, but there were people that watched your launch attempts that actually know how fast cars act. Nothing you say will speak more about your car than what I saw with my own eyes on Saturday. Dead hooking on cold tires on the street in 60* weather? So you're telling me you just got out there cold turkey and cut a 1.6 60ft on the street? Who do you think you are fooling? The only people impressed by you leaving like a school bus are people who don't know how drag cars are supposed to act. Your car didnt hit the tires, it didnt snap the front end up, it didn't do anything but make noise and not want to idle. If that were mine I'd have left it in the grass and just let people think it's fast, instead of getting it out there and removing all doubt.
Oh and if you left tracks down the road a mile, why didnt you do that to "impress" us all at the show? But didnt you just say your car dead hooks? So which story is it? i used to really respect you man...but over the last few years as your car has gotten faster and you've gotten better at making it work, the less you seem to respect other members and their rides. your posts over the last few years are evidence of that. this post here just confirms how much of a dick you've become.
after what steve has told me about this event, as much of a long haul as it was and i had wanted to attend it for so long, i don't think i'll ever try to make it now.

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Oh now you mention you were launching in 2nd gear? Which story are we on now I’ve lost count. If this keeps going you’re going to tell me you didn’t launch hard because you were afraid of blowing the welds on the intake….
There is only one person getting negative feedback here Steve. Notice the trend? If you don’t come next year, all we’ll be missing is a loud rowdy car on a trailer and an owner with 500 different stories. I bet we’ll survive your absence.
I didn’t have it out for you for offering Pete advice, you were just trying to help and didn’t know the whole story. I actually think inside you are a good guy and you want to help, and that IS appreciated, and we WILL miss that at next year’s show if you don’t come. What we won’t miss, is someone showing up and showing off and then making excuses and telling stories when the show-off is a flop. Your assumption is that no one can spot BS, and that’s not true. Do you really expect people to respond favorably when you try to show off and then make up 5 different stories about why your performance sucked? If you wanted to take your buddy for a ride and test the converter, knowing the car wasn’t going to launch hard, why didn’t you just calmly drive away and try that out somewhere else?
I’m not here to argue, I’m here to call you to account because I don’t believe anything you say. I don’t know why you can’t be comfortable in your own skin and just let things be what they are. Your attempts to defend yourself simply discredit you further in the eyes of guys and gals that know whats really going on. Be truthful, be real, people will accept that no matter the results.

It wasn't until I heard him making remarks while loading the car, and then I see his remarks on here that I got annoyed. I know that makes me sound like an internet hardass, but thats not the case.

I know what it runs at the track so you tell me you think its so slow that it runs what? You can hear it in the video that it comes up on the converter at 5200 and sits there in second. You're still coming across as a huge dick. So tell me who had a faster car there?

I didnt say anywhere the car was slow. Who cares who had the fastest car there? When did that ever come up? Are you going to get childish on me? I'm calling you out for making up hundreds of excuses and expecting us to believe them. I can't believe you think people are going to react favorably to being lied to.
I know I'm not going to change anything here, but I think I've said my piece and made my point. At this point I'm done arguing this topic, if I don't stop soon no one will be able to tell which one of us is acting more foolish.

1meanz were you not hugged as a child? All you can do is go on and on and on looking for fault in a fellow member who has done nothing but try to help others here. Were you driving the car? Do you know how much throttle or what gear was used? Or you you simply ASSuming? If you think the car isn't impressive and Steve is a liar glad you have an opinion, it's like and ******* everyone has one. Maybe next year you will impress us all with your finely crafted machine. Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Can't we all just get along? I would hope nothing in this thread would keep anyone from going to an event in the future.
This was the first Third Gen Fest I've been to and I enjoyed it. It was awesome to see that many thirdgens in one place. I talked to a lot of good people there, I have no idea what their screen names are on here though.
I don't really care if someone's car is as fast, faster, or slower than advertised and the reasons why or why not. That's not what this event is about, its about meeting people, sharing ideas, and looking at some very nice cars. Hearing Steve's car run and go up and down the road a couple of times motivated me to get my 84 started up and ready to race this year. Nothing like the sound of a LS engine with a big lopey cam.
mw66nova,
If you ever go to this event in the future or an event in Indy let me know. Hope we can meet some day...You are like my long lost sport coupe brother

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
Let me start of by saying i have been helping steve along with a few others so i got a pretty good idea what the car has done and is capable in doing. I see steve always posting on here helping others out and i just laugh at him for it because this site is very ridiculous most of the time. That is the problem with this site is homos like "1meanz" they think they know something when in reality they couldn't buy a clue. Just because steve built a car to drive on the street and drag race with doesnt mean its the wrong way just means he would rather not go drive around cones in circles in a parking lot.
First you cant tell how fast a car is because of how it reacts. I seen shitboxs with such loose suspension it would pull the tires coming out of the carwash. Steves suspension works alot better than a 1.6 if you dont believe so hell make the trip up here with a pocket full of cash and we can bet on his 60ft all day. As far as him doing a burnout there are plenty of reasons he didnt steve is all about being safe the dude says something anytime i barely go over the speedlimit in his neighborhood lol. The car was in need of alot of work the past few weeks so im sure he didnt want to go out and beat on it because not everything had been gone over like he wanted to.
Maybe he should have started his burnout in first...real smart as thats a really quick way to ruin a sprag in a th400
This guy seems to get it

Thanks! That picture looks awesome. Alot better than the screencap I took of the youtube video. Haha. There were some awesome rides there.
So true. This was my first Thirdgen Fest and I had an awesome time. I'll be dammed if anyone stopped going because of some fight over the internet...

Re: Thirdgen Fest '13 Burnout Vids
The whole reason I'm busting Steve's chops on this is because I suspect something disengenuous was going on. If he would have gotten on here and said "can it guys. It wasn't supposed to be a burnout or a launch, I shouldn't even have done it in front of you all. We were flashing the converter in 2nd gear" I would have respected that and not said a word. But instead I've lost count of how many different stories I've heard him use for what was going on that day. To me it looked like a publicity stunt gone wrong followed up by a folly of silly excuses.
And by the way thisjustaintme, be careful with the name calling on here, you don't even know who I am. I'm not calling anyone else names, I didnt say Steve was a terrible person or that he hasn't helped people. I'm being critical of things he has said. There are no personal attacks here.

Goes back to a guy being salty because it didn't meet his standards apparently. I had a good time, others enjoyed it. Obviously the only person being an arsehole is the one in the mirror meanz. Maybe you should keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say. Seems everyone in the thread agrees but your warped sense of reality.
