Opinions on what this is worth: 1985 T/A

Hi all,

Any input is appreciated. Looking at picking up a 1985 T/A 305/T5 to build up. Specs are:

Original maroon, now with a decent black paint job.
Non-original carbed 305, MSD wires and billet dist, Edelbrock carb, old headers
Working (stock?) T5
Borg Warner rear - gears unknown.
Stock 15" wheels with new rubber
Grey interior- carpet and front seats are rough, console gone, dash pad cracked, no headliner
PW, PL, Tilt, A/C delete
Around 170K on the car
Car appears to be rot free, was oil sprayed for part of its life.
Asking price is 3K, as is where is. I feel its a little steep, but I may be being too cheap for my own good. Any opinions?

$3000.00 seems a bit high for what your getting .Do you have any pictures or the Rpo codes for the car.
If not try the vin number on comp nine vin decoder to see whether or not it will list the Rpo`s for the car.

Re: Opinions on what this is worth: 1985 T/A

Don't have the VIN yet, but I did get lots of pictures. Cannot find any rot from the photos, and I asked for pics of all the usual spots. I'll attach a choice few pics. My main issue is the damn thing is in Pembroke...not exactly a short trip from Hamilton.
I *suspect* its an L69 car, but less the original L69 now. I looked at a similar car in Fort Erie a week ago, same car except auto and a tan interior. Seller is asking 3500 and the hatch has been leaking. Rot is starting in the rear of the car and I noted water from inside the car exiting through the quarter lip. I want t-tops, and I want rot-free, and preferably a T/A. I was hoping to find an abandoned project less driveline, but I haven't found it yet.

Unless your really set on this car I would wait until you find what you want.........a project TA rot free with t tops less driveline.
If you are set on this car offer them what you may have budgeted for a rot free t top less driveline TA and see what happens ....not to mention the drive to pick it up

There is a 87 TA t top with 383 stroker 5 speed on kijiji Toronto (extend area to within 1000 km) for $2200.00 or b.o. might be worth while.

Re: Opinions on what this is worth: 1985 T/A

Hey all, thanks for your thoughts. jaygt....Thanks, but your green car is WAY too nice, and your red car (as you advertised) had a floor patch. As well, its a 91, which means emissions forever. I've parted out a bunch of these cars and looked at many more. As soon as they start needing patches, I usually find rust starting to poke out in other places as well, and these cars are about as structurally sound as a wet noodle to begin with.

I've got an 89 GTA and a 91 GTA, both unsaveable, that I want to put into one car, hence why I'm not looking for the best stuff out there. I was supposed to build the 89, but its just too bent. I've been looking for a suitable car since July last year and its been nothing but disappointments. I'm trying to avoid a trip to the states to get a body, but perhaps it will come to that.

irock88...Perhaps you're right, more patience is needed. I just am trying to get all these parts and parts cars cleaned up so I can move on to other projects. I've got cars stored (outside on the lawn) at my extremely understanding gf's folks place. Its weighing on my mind and my parts (eg. leather interior) aren't getting any better with age. I'll check out the 87, thanks for your input.

Checked out the 87, its really nice....too bad its a hardtop.

3k is a lot for that car. It's rough inside, and you know you won't get the full picture until you drive 5hrs to see it.
If you're that intent on rust free just get a US car.

Re: Opinions on what this is worth: 1985 T/A

I was hoping I could get it for 2250-2500. I have had the guy take dozens of pics. I cannot find a single spot of rot. The spare tire well is perfect, and the drivers floor doesn't seem to have any issues. I was looking around eBay for cars as well, to compare. Anything Trans Am in the 2000-3000k mark (that sold) needs paint or body panels (fenders). He's asking 3k, but I am figuring he'll be negotiable. Attached are pics of drivers floor and spare tire well. And yes, the floor is a little dented because someone didn't know how to jack up a car. The paint is not bad, everything seems to have been jammed properly, (sill plates removed, etc.)

Re: Opinions on what this is worth: 1985 T/A

*sigh* Well, I don't know what to say. Even at 3k it was a turd. Pinholes in the drivers side floor, enamel paint shot over the original with no primer in between. Needless to say, I left it there. I'm just about to the point where I'm going to give up and sell all the parts and the cars and call it a day. So much for building a fun car on a budget.
