305 Drag race contest?

HI everybody in Ontario.

I was just wondering how many people would be interested in participating in a friendly drag race just for bragging rights.

I was thinking mabey a 305 powered 3rd gen. Any ideas or input on rules and limits? Good idea or bad idea? What do u guys think?

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

That would be kinda interesting but the only problem is making sure its a 305 under the hood lol.

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

Or you could include 350's and just give them a handicap...like bracket racing.

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

It s not about who goes the fastest or who wins, but more to show and prove the 305 is capable. And it would be fun to see what kind of combinations people come up with. Anybody can go fast with 350, 383 400 etc etc. Its nice to see something different that hasn't been done over and over again.

It doesn't matter what the displacement is, as long as it's a 305 short block. I believe the id is left side rear of block. says 5.0L

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

If its just to prove cabability, then you should open it up to V6's as well. Just say no big blocks, and no engines based on a 4 inch bore SBC. That will keep out the 327's and 302's.

Also, I don't know if all 305's have the "5.0L" designation stamped in the block. I think the blocks before the one piece rear main seal only have a casting number, no displacement number.

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

do the drag race, but do it by engines displacement. 305 races 305. 350 races 350. i would be down for next year! would be a good chance to show a custom manifold intake on my 305

That sounds like a good idea. lets try to spread the word and set a date for next year at Cayuga.

As for displacements, it would be too difficult to measure everyone's car and of course there will be some cheaters, lol. Best to identify the blocks by casting numbers. and competitors can do what ever they like to the motor. (de stroke, bore over, any heads any cam etc etc)

I'm assuming there won't be a whole lot of 305s showing up so mabey v6 group, 305 group, and 350. only blocks that were available in 3rd gen cars. We would have to make a list of allowable casting #s.

How much boost or nitrous was on that motor? If he did it naturally aspirated, he deserves a medal!!

I could race in it with the 86, yes, at the moment it wouldnt pass tech, needs a battery tie down, a new windshield and has a couple springs broken No idea what it would run, but would be fun to see

Mid 13's N/A I think, used the bottle for the 11.4, just cant remember if it was a 150shot or a 200shot, I know it went slower with the 250 shot, motor was an LG4 out of an 86 Trans Am with around 220,000k on it(a friend of ours rolled the car and she said he could have the engine), I think it got an old 300HP cam and a old Torker intake, Idea was to blow her up with the bottle but the old thing just wouldnt blow

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

maybe hawk will loan me a 3rd gen shell and i can come play, sucks that stroking it is allowed cause i was going to cheat and do that for another 305 wars but was told that would be cheating....so i stuck to stock stroke. as for what block numbers came in what cars that doesn't make much sense. 305's have their own casting numbers so a 305 block is a 305 block i prefer to run the older blocks because they are stronger, like the old 010 blocks. but my new 305 is coming along nicely and i will be ready for next years race

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

i don't really want a 3rd gen, things are built too weak. my 2nd gen runs mid 9's with a bone stock rear end. more room for exhaust and engine. i sold all mine to hawk heres a video of the 305 taking out a 3rd gen...dude red lighted

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/3...shot_51777.htm

we even advertise...

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

they had to build the car a little lighter on that gen. thats why they came out a little weaker. WOW are u the guy that Hawk talked about?

Re: 305 Drag race contest?

I am stationed down south where 1/4 mile racing is out in favor for circle track mud racing... anyways, they do something called a "puff test" to verify the cubic inches since this type of racing is extremely strict about the rules. I don't know much about how they do it, I am a 1/4 guy myself but it might be worth looking into. Wish I was in Ontario for all the fun

im not into head porting, i have had some poorly done ones come my way that we have thrown out...if their not done properly you can hurt the performance of them....and if your running boost, well the stuffs gonna get in there anyways
