Off to the big smoke!
I just got the official word that my company is moving me to Toronto effective June 18. The bay street rat race doesn't fit my lifestyle at all but it is something I need to do. The camaro will stay here in London but I am still planning to participate in as many events as I can this summer. I will likely be commuting from Brampton (GF lives there) for the first year or so. I refuse to buy a condo downtown... so I will likely wait until my GF is ready to shack up so we can get something with a decent garage.
Any advice from GTA members? How bad is the Go-Train commute?

Ended up buying a condo near the Humber River and the Lakeshore. In the morning it takes me about 20-30 minutes to drive to my office which is in Yorkville. Coming home varies but 40 minutes usually does it.
No way I'd want to live in one those downtown condos either.
As for Toronto, I hate the place but there's nowhere else that I can go

Performance Improvements is on Rutherford rd south of Queen st in Brampton and theres a hugh Napa right across the road and down a little bit. Not to mention the hugh Manderin just south of rutherford and steels. As for the drive or the train I have no idea, I live and work in Georgetown (for two more weeks anyways) which is 10 mins west of Brampton on hwy 7.

For a while I was commuting from Stouffville to Bay Street. I lasted about two weeks with the train and then went back to driving. Depends on your temperment I guess but I found the cattle car aspect of it really annoying and it pissed me off worse than sitting in traffic for 3 hours a day.

Same here... in my line of work all roads lead to Toronto. I am right at King&Bay so driving is no longer an option. I tried to drive there before Christmas and it was a nightmare. My GF works is in aviation management so she will be stuck at Pearson for the forseeable future. I think we will likely end up in the Brampton/Caledon area.

At least you can walk it from Union and don't have to use the subway.
We were at King and Wellington for a few years; cost me $10 a day for parking at the Atrium on Bay.
I find if I leave at 7:30 the traffic on the Gardner is pretty good although driving in from Brampton would be impossible.

Brampton to downtown TO by public trans. That's tough. I tried driving from Mississauga to downtown. Lasted two months. Changed jobs.
It sound like a two hour commute at least.
Maybe try to find someone you can pool with.
If you try driving the QEW is not that bad except for winter when all bets are off. If you leave early enough the traffic is not too bad. Take a day off and try a driving dry run to see if it's do able. QEW to 427 is slow, opens up to just before spadina or so and then VERY slow. Lakeshore might be a bit better if driving.
Good Luck.

Re: Off to the big smoke!
I've been taking the GO train everyday to downtown TO for about 10 years. It can be boring at times, but for the most part, it's the way to go. You can read the paper, drink your coffee, listen to your MP3 player, sleep, whatever you like...all while not worrying about stop and go traffic, accidents, stupid drivers, etc.. And now it's a tax deduction too.
