E-Test a success!

I have a 1985 Delta 88 that was given to me by Tanager... and it wasn't supposed to need another test, but since I moved the car to a different region I had to get one this year. In the mean time I had swapped to an older higher HP engine of the same displacement and gutted all of the emissions crap.

I was fully expecting to have to do a conditional pass and pay the repair cost limit, but I decided to try all of the "tricks" just in case. Here's what I did:

-Set timing to 2 degrees advanced
-New Air Filter
-Changed Oil
-Added 4 liters of 99% pure isopropyl alcohol to 3/4 tank of gas
-Ran the car hard all the way there to heat up the converter

On top of everything else, the standards have been tightened and even if I ran the same numbers as the last test with the old engine, it would have failed.

End result it passed with flying colours! I'm going to try this trick when my semi radical 383 needs to be tested next year.

Thanks to Brad (darbleinad) for giving me the info on the isopropyl alcohol.

This isn't guaranteed to work, but it might help out some of you.

Cool! Glad she passed. The alcohol definately does work, been using that stuff pretty much since E-Test started. Good to hear you had no troubles.

glad to see you got her passed. excellent work. the etest is such a bloody tax grab.

the stuff costs about 15 bucks a gallon. you can get it a TSC, shoppers drug mart can odrer it in gallon jugs, and chemical supply stores carry it too......if anyone was wondering.

you guys dont have TSC near toronto? its a farm and hardware supply. they have farm chemicals (for animals and plants), generic tractor and equipment parts, hardware, plumbing, electrical, work clothes, tools, BBQs, etc

its a great store. London has 2, Strathroy has 1.

No TSC - I buy things like that at the Stouffville Co-Op but the only jugs of alcohol that they have there would be the stuff they make themselves..lol

hahhaha

however, i would imagine they have 99.9% isopropyl alcohol there. actually, if they are a real Co-Op, i would be shocked if they didnt have it.

If I were to post a picture of the place you'd be shocked but it may well be that they have the stuff - I'll have to call them tomorrow.

Oh yeah it's still alive! Here's a list of where she's been in the last year:

-To work and back every day
-Brampton and back 19 times
-Hamilton and back 3 times
-Windsor and back 4 times
-Barrie and back 2 times
-Oshawa and back 2 times
-Sandusky Ohio and back
-Chicago, Illinois and back (1 tank of gas)

I've racked up alot of KMS and she still runs just fine.... I nailed a curb being a moron and did alot of damage to the front suspension, but I just finished replacing the lower balljoints (that was not fun) and had an alignment, she's good as new!

The only thing wrong is that I cleaned up some rust in the summer time and just primered over top... I never got around to painting it, so now all of those spots are covered in surface rust worse than they were before.

This was the perfect car to drive and run parts while working on the project camaro...

I'll try and find a pic for you tomorrow!

Ha ha...thats hillarious.....I knew she had some life still in her (ok well on a new engine and with soem TLC)...I just couldnt sink the time/energy into her myself....But happy to hear she still has a good home!!!! :-)

Ya I put a lot of KM's on her when I had her...and loved every minute of it (well maybe I lied there...the last month I had her I wasnt all that "happy" with her but then again thats my own fault for not woking on it).....

That doesnt surprise me about the chicago trip & one tank of gas.....Myself and a couple boys made it back from Cleveland Oh on just over a 1/4 tank....Ya surprised the hell out of me...she just cruses at about 120...Ahhhh those were the days.

Ha ha ha...good to hear she is still alive and kicking Jay!!
