Me and the Acorn
The other day or two I was out driving The Z after my new mods. I was screaming around town then jumped on the interstate for a quick jaunt a couple exits south. I exit heading South on Military trail and have to make a hewy @ PGA Blvd. to head back North. The light is going red so I make a quick turn give her some gas, get a little sideways and stop at the 1st light. I am in the middle lane of 3, cars begin to fill in on both sides and behind. As Def Leopard rings out from the open cabin I look up in the rearview and see a middle aged man in a white sporty looking car. His hands gripped tightly on the wheel, he is leaned in slightly on the wheel and he is smiling from ear to ear. Surely he doesn't want to race ME!
The light goes green and I light the tires momentarily and go just fast enough to not let the white car get around me. It is now I see the badging on his car, it is a Honda Acorn. We get to light 2. I look up in my rearview, my playlist has changed to VH Hot for Teacher and my heart starts pounding like the drums in the song! I look up to see the Acorn driver rolling his fingers on the wheel, he gets up on the wheel and has this determined look through his glasses like the Red Baron about to pounce! Well I have a Red Baron of my own.
The light goes green and I spin the tires once again but this time I speed up and move over to the right lane to allow the Acorn along side of me. There is another light shortly ahead which is red. The sound of the engine, the smell of burning rubber, 80's tunes blaring from the radio. I am stoked, the Acorn does want to race Me, all these feelings come rushing back and I feel like a kid all over again.
I look over at the Baron and he gives me the thumbs up with a huge grin, Race on! He proceeds to stare straight at the red light and gets ready. I look at the opposite direction light and wait for it to go yellow. I want the hole shot! I start to put pressure on the gas pedal as I hold the brake tight, I look over to see the death grip of the wheel of the Baron. The light goes green and I time it perfect!. I launch out in front. I am looking at my gauges for the shift points to not miss a thing. The Z is pulling, the motor sounding stout and the trans banging gears like you would do to a cheap hooker on sat. night! This section of road is clear for over a mile so at 90 on the odometer I now look for the a Acorn. Well he is a good 6 car lengths behind.
We stop at the next light and the Baron looks over gives me the double thumbs up and mouths the words "Nice Car Man" It as at that point I felt like I was looking in the mirror at myself. The Baron turns forward looks straight ahead and drives off into the sunset. I slowly leave the light and reflect on my little victory over a guy that wishes he was Me or at least driving my Red Baron.

Re: Me and the Acorn
My high school buddy wore thick glasses and always hunched over the steering wheel with a death grip. Might have been him. LOL!
